Who Will Chip Hire as OC & DC

Let's take a trip to....The Twilight Zone"

You think finding a DC at Oregon is tough? Imagine for a minute what might happen to Oregon's house of cards if Chip reaches out to Mark Helfrich to become his offensive coordinator and Mike Nolan for Defensive Coordinator. Those calling for Helfrich to be replaced, be careful what you wish for.

Upon his hiring, Chip made a statement that one would expect but I think Oregon fans should be cautiously concerned about. Here's his statement:

" I would like to thank Jed Trent, and the York family, for this tremendous opportunity to be the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. As one of the most historic franchises in the National Football League, I realize the high standards and expectations this position demands and I embrace the challenges ahead. My immediate challenge is to build the best coaching staff possible, one that will maximize the abilities of each of our players and put us in the best position to win football games."

I'm sure we have nothing to be concerned about, or do we?

Wilson topping the charts...

From our friend over at Sooner Scoop, Josh McCuistion, Wilson is now the top ranked PSA out of Oklahoma:

"I've said for a while that if Wilson could become more consistent he could climb into the top five. Well, I'm clearly more sold than ever. It hasn't been a great year for him and his team but his frame, ability to throw a catchable ball and his talent for when a play breaks down could make him a true star. The risk is that too often Wilson forces the issue and tries to make things happen that just aren't there to be had. Someday, Wilson could be a guy that people wonder how the two in-state powers ever let get to Oregon. And after his performance at the Semper-Fi All-American Bowl that seems more inevitable than ever."

Have the Ducks Already Selected the New Defensive Coordinator?

Interesting how many teams have Co-Defensive Coordinators. I'm kind of wondering if Oregon has brokered a deal with one of the programs to hold off announcing until after signing day. Potential price to pay would be missing out on a few big time recruits this year but you get your guy for the "long haul". Helfrich may also feel his current staff will be able to close on recruits due to their experience in spite of the DC vacancy. Pure unadulterated speculation.

Interestingly, there are 17 FBS schools that have Co-Defensive Coordinators on staff. They are:

1. Bowling Green - Perry Eliano/Marcus White
2. Michigan St - Harlan Barnett/Mike Tressel
3. Ohio St - Luke Fickell/Greg Shiano
4. Kansas - Clint Brown/Kenny Perry
5. Duke - Jim Collins/Jim Knowles
6. Clemson - Marion Hobby/Brent Venables
7. Tulsa - Brian Norwood/Bill Young
8. Houston - Craig Navar/Todd Orlando
9. Connecticut - Vincent Brown/Anthony Poindexter
10. Louisiana Lafayette - Melvin Smith/James Lewis
11. Arizona St - VACANT/Keith Patterson
12. Utah St - Frank Maile/Kendrick Shaver
13. Washington - Pete Kwiatkowski/Jimmy Lake
14. Auburn - Kevin Steele/Wes McGriff
15. Florida - Geoff Collins/Randy Shannon
16. Kentucky - Derrick Ansley/D.J. Elliott
17. Ole Miss - Jason Jones/Dave Wommack

On a side note, I think it makes total sense to go after an Orlando or Kwiatkowski but when you land them their stay might be short, 2-3 years. Thus, bringing in a "Co-Coordinator" as an understudy makes complete sense. Maybe the. DC from NDSU, for example.

Guesses on the New DC

Let the speculation begin on the likely hire, as well as who and how many were considered to replace DP. Todd Orlando may have been at Houston only a year, but he has the chops to bring in a decidedly more aggressive defense, if he could be hired away. His performance against FSU was very impressive.

Anyone else in mind to fill the spot?

Moving DP back to LB coach is likely to be a temporary move and I expect that there will be an assistant LB coach brought in as well.

Tomorrow's edition of Flock Talk

So, here is the dealio Emilio's... tomorrow in Flock Talk I was hoping to have had the decision already made from Helfrich for the DC spot, but, alas, that is not the case.

I am not as worried about the length of time because I have full faith that the guys out doing the recruiting know a LOT more than any of us and are doing as good as can be hoped...

However, either there will be 'breaking news' later today which I will expand on, or I will keep digging around and mining whatever limited information I can gather between now and tonight... definitely a late night for me, but will do my best to get a good Flock talk up for you guys in the morning!

OT: Up close and personal

Thought I would also start a thread... we used to do this more, a little "Getting to know" thread where members can share about themselves...

So, some know me, some do not. But for the last 20 or so years, I have been a pretty serious powerlifter. I once came within a whisker of the WR at the time for my weight class pushing up 680 pounds on the bench...

But the powerlifting came at an expense. I had eaten pretty well for the most part, and kept my weight the same for all that time... about 10 years ago, I finally got a doctor to do a blood pressure check with the right size cuff and it was pretty shocking: 225/190...

I went on the medicine as I did not smoke, drink excessively (discounting after Duck losses of course!) and did not eat salt... so, not many options... I continued to lift and do my thing...

2 years ago my long time lifting buddy moved to Colorado and I was kind of left without a trusted spotter... as things continued to change, last summer I decided to try something different... I gave up all processed foods. no more protein bars. No more peanut butter. No more bread. Just vegetables, fruits, legumes and fresh meats...

Suddenly, everything changed. Chronic sinusitis went away. Blood pressure went down. And I started to lose weight. I actually had not wanted to lose weight, but began to accept the incontrovertible fact that I was no longer a "power lifter" just a guy who was getting less healthy.

Anyway, long story short, this is the before and after in the same shirt... in less than 6 months I lost 55+ pounds...
