Yost provides feedback to Jalen Mayden

Here are some notes that Yost had for the 2018 QB:

"He was real solid with all the basic things. Nice job with release point and smooth rhythm with his feet. Made all the throws real consistent and only had a couple sail just a little... You can see a improvement over his sophomore game video and I'm real excited to come back for spring ball and see how much more he improves from now."

Some of the other kids there are Sachse that worked out in the session as well were really excited to meet Yost, so he is already having a very positive effect out there.

Broncos/Patriots and Defense

I've seldom seen QBs so dominated by defense, especially the way the Bronco rush gave Brady so little time to throw...but with both defenses still having the capacity to stop each other's running game as well. And so many three and outs.

I have to admit our prospect of having a more aggressive defense the season of 2016 is something to look forward to. A good pass rush can't help but free up our DBs to play some man and move up tighter.

Latest on Chacho Ulloa..

He told me his visit to Arizona was "awesome" and also that Oregon has informed him they're full at DB so the Ducks are now out of the picture.

The Corona (Calif.) Centennial prospect said he will return home today, sit down with his parents and see if there is another school he can visit. But after that news, it seems Arizona could have the big lead here.

If Ducks take 24

Here is my list of likely commits....I know some will think it's a wish list.....it's not

#1 Caleb Kelly
#2 Nigel Knott
#3 Keith Simms
#4 Connor Murphy
#5 Jake Raulerson
#6 Wayne Kirby

My biggest problem is that there isn't a replacement for McDoom at the wideout. I might want to get Hansford as a wide out...see how it goes he could always switch to defense if it doens't work.
Some that I'd have to fill in as the list goes down from the preferred six:

Jonathan Kongbo...........I'd take him over Murphy if he would commit
Calvin Bundage
Beau Bisharat
Chacho Ulloa
Prince Sammons
Erik Swenson
Wayne Kirby
Scott Lashley

The latest on Wayne Kirby

Three-star defensive tackle Wayne Kirby from Pocatello (Idaho) landed an Oregon offer earlier this week and he tells me that although it means a lot for his recruitment, he doesn't anticipate making a commitment until after he takes every official visit.

Kirby is in Eugene this weekend and has planned to visit Utah next weekend. He says he probably won't commit on National Signing Day, but he is setting a Feb. 1 target date to announce.

The former BYU commit also has Washington State in his final three (along with the Ducks and Utes), and he really enjoyed what he saw in Pullman last week.

"There is early playing time there," Kirby said. "It's a small campus, a great community and town, and I love coach Joe (Salave'a). With Oregon, all of the coaches came so I guess all of them are recruiting me. They are telling me kind of the same things as Wazzu. With Utah it's Justin Ena recruiting me, and I'm interested by the things they do with defensive linemen and also how successful they are."

Kirby said he has talked about playing the 3-technique for the Ducks.

Another Stanford De-Commit

Ouch!!!!

I think that that is 3 decommits this week for Stanford......

According to CBS Sports Stanford commit Brandon Stephens has re-opened his recruitment after a visit from Alabama.

From CBS Sports/ 24/7:

"Running back Brandon Stephens (Plano, Texas) has re-opened his recruitment from Stanford, as first-reported by 247Sports, per Stephens and his mother.

Alabama was his second choice before the Stanford pledge was made early this fall.

Alabama went in-home Monday as Crimson Tide wide receivers coach Billy Napier met with the family over dinner.

Wisconsin, Texas and Oklahoma have continued to recruit the prospect, one of the nation's top backs, since he originally committed to Stanford.

Look for many other schools to begin showing interest in Stephens this evening.

As a senior, Stephens rushed for 1,389 yards including a 6.3 yards per carry average and 15 touchdowns.

Stephens carries a 3.4 core GPA and holds a 23 ACT score.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder runs a 4.4-second 40-yard dash.

He's ranked as the nation's No. 20 running back by 247Sports.com Composite Rankings."

Recruiting priorities and targets vs remaining spots

So, by my review of the roster/scholarships and unless there is more attrition that isn't public yet, by my calculations there is only room for 4 more recruits in this class (total of 21). I also am assuming the Ducks are off sanctions and are back to being able to have a full 85 scholarships. With Hoke's publicly stated desire for a beefy DT, how does that shift the priority of remaining targets?

Coaches are still actively pursuing Nigel Knott, Caleb Kelly, Conner Murphy, Johnathan Kongbo (maybe?), Chacho Ulloa and now Wayne Kirby (DT from Idaho). I'm sure they are looking at others as well (Bisharat?). So, how do we think this all plays out by position? A few of those are must take recruits regardless of position...
