Give Helf one more year

I'm writing this post prior to the Washington game so people wont think it's in response to a victory in the event we pull off the upset.

1. Helf is a class act. This should count for something.

2. The combination of a young OL (injuries to Crosby and Pisarsic have really hurt) and a game manager QB have limited the offense. The O hasn't been able to push tempo because the coaches are trying to protect a weak defense. Next year will look much different with Herbert in his second year and an experienced OL.

3. With the addition of Yost, this a very talented offensive coaching staff. It will get even better as Lubick gains experience.

4. Skill position recruiting is going well and the OL is talented...just really young.

5. Yes, the front seven on D is flat out bad this year (*edit: so far); however, they are young and learning a new system. Virtually everyone will be back next year (including Ragain, since he has a red-shirt available; *Edit: it looks like Ragain will be back this year, so he won't redshirt). We'll be in year two of a dramatically different scheme. Put this all together and I think the D will be much improved next year.

6. I've criticized Hoke in previous threads. But after further thought, I think I went too far. Hoke is using a variety of blitzes and DL stunts (something I wrongly criticized) because the front seven isn't any good. The front seven isn't bad because of Hoke's scheme. Hoke is using exotic looks and blitzes to produce pressure since we can't generate any playing teams straight up. At most, we should allow Hoke to bring in his choice of DL coaches (this is the most feasible dismissal since Aiken hasn't been with the program as long as Pellum & Neal).

7. Oregon fans have been spoiled by the success of the last eight seasons or so. Let's not make things worse by turning into an SEC-like fan base with unrealistic expectations.

8. Our players might need a down year to re-light the fire that motivated our previous run. The brilliance of the 2007 season couldn't have happened without the disaster that was 2006.

Go Ducks!

Defense

What I don't understand is this:

How is it, that, after 7 games, it seems as if so many players on D do not know the scheme?

It appears to me that time and again, the opposing offense breaks a big play and then two or more Ducks look at each other like "that was your guy not mine" or something to that effect.

On any given play, some of our guys do not seem to know where they are supposed to be.

Its one thing to be be in the right place at the right time and still get beat by a better opponent.

I can accept that.

But to consistently be out of place as if you don't know where you and everyone else are supposed to be.....it boggles my mind.

Can the scheme be that difficult that college students cannot figure it out?

Do the coaches suck at teaching?

Are the kids stupid? (I'm sure they are not).

I just don't get it.

Four-star combo guard Lindell Wigginton

I've been calling around on this one all day and there seems to be no clear consensus. My feel for most of the recruitment has been that Oregon would be the team to beat but from what I've heard asking around today, Wigginton has left each of the three remaining staffs feeling pretty good about their chances with him tomorrow.

Wish I could offer something more concrete than that but every once in a while you get a kid who either tells or gives off the vibe to all the schools involved that he's coming. Looks like that might be the case with Lindell. Will keep checking for info and stop by if I hear anything further to add.

Mckitty visiting SEC teams

Well Just read an update on one of our relationship 3 star TE verbal commits Tre Mckitty. When asked how solid he was with his verbal with Oregon his reply was "Um, right now I really don’t know,” McKitty said. “My dad’s been really talking to me about staying close to home. I’m still thinking about a lot of things right now.”

Alot of Duck fans didn't think we would hold onto this TE and it would appear as though your words may be prophetic. He has visited FSU, today was in Miami....opps they lost today , and I believe Auburn is the school that is next for him according to an article from 247sports today.

So what or how does Oregon go about holding on to him or can they realistically. I have a few thoughts about this but it just doesn't work these days with these kids, their families and social media. Anyone got any ideas, suggestions or does a school at a certain point talk to a kid and confront them on something like this? Send a coach or 2 and go over what was said and discussed, what was offered, what was liked when he visited and now why has this changed. Does a team ever Ask them to decommit or just let it play out.
,, does this affect how Oregon continues to recruit the TE position? ....... IDK what do any of you think?
