Okay, it looks like it has been a busy weekend all around the itnernet. Much speculation about commits, possible commits, delayed commits, silent commits; you name it and it is probably out there. Also a rumor about a transfer. So what's up with all of this?
I was out of town Saturday and spent most of the day in my backyard on a project (turned a grassy area off of my back deck into a small little garden - made very difficult by the dry soil, but it was good exercise, LOL!). I heard many, many rumors while I was driving to and from Eugene yesterday and again today as my phone was going pretty crazy while I was digging up the yard.
- Ugo Amadi sent out a tweet that scared people. Relax. While it could be many things, I was told it was not about a transfer. The sources did not want to give detail about his announcement, but everyone can relax for the moment.
- There was a surprise offer to Christian Barmore this weekend. As I said in another thread, the offer is 100% legit. A very, very reliable source in this case told me it was a legit offer.
- Speaking of sources, this is a tricky business. Sometimes a single source can be extremely accurate and I will run with the 'rumored' quack thread based off of that source. Sometimes another recruit is a good enough source to trust what they tell me. But that only works if the recruit has an established close friendship with the rumored 'quack.' If, however, the relationship is the result of being recruited in the same class, but they did not know each other prior, I just cannot trust that source enough to run with a story; or even a thread
The recruit might ultimately be right, but I will check additional sources to verify. What I prefer to do is go as close to the source as possible.
- I did that this weekend with a rumored 2018 silent commit and was told 'that's news to me'
- That does not mean that the kid will not ultimately commit; it just means that it has not yet happened. It's not about videos, or 'formal' announcement tweets; or phone calls to other coaches. The decision has not yet been finalized with family.
- No, the family is not against it, but they are close enough that it will be discussed prior to any official decision being made. That conversation could very well happen tonight, or it could happen next week. But I can only say 'slow the roll' on the 'silent commit' talk. In this case, it is not yet the level of silent commit.
- Malcolm Lamar will be at the SNL camp on July 29th. There is a very strong potential for him to pick the Ducks, so he is another one to watch.
