Due Diligence by FSU on Taggart for their HC job

Now that we know that FSU will seriously try to hire Taggart we should be doing due diligence as well.

I think the easiest way out of this whole mess is merely to tell Taggart that we will easily beat any bona fide(in writing) salary contract offer by FSU.
Trying to replace Taggart at this juncture would be disastrous as we would lose almost our entire recruiting class. I am sure Taggart would take all of his Assistant Coaches with him as well. Oregon Football would be set back for a generation if he were to leave.
At this stage the money issue is certainly a big factor in Jimbo's plan to leave FSU for Texas A&M and very well may be the difference maker for Taggart.
We have poured hundred's of millions of dollars into facilities and by comparison any salary contract extension would be chump change( hundred's of millions for facilities vs millions of dollars for Coaches).
I have always maintained that Coaches salaries are more important in the long run for a University to become and maintain elite status.
What good does it do to have arguably the best football facilities in the nation if we cannot maintain an elite Coaching staff to run the program.

Bowl destinations and Oregon's planned epic recruiting weekend

Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury-News says Oregon is coveted this bowl season, and likely to end up at the Cactus Bowl on December 26:

Another destination is the Las Vegas Bowl on December 16th. That'd be great for travel plans, but it runs smack dab into Oregon's planned recruiting blitz for that weekend.

Can recruits visit teams at a bowl site? Can it be an official visit? I should know, but I can't find a confirmation on Google.

In terms of recruiting and developing the underclassmen, the December 26th date seems like a better fit. Likely opponent would be Kansas State.

Coaching Carousel

It has been an interesting time. Here is what I shared privately with Football Scoop and the Florida publisher:

Heard an interesting comment from a source tonight. Said Chip to UCLA, but reason Florida not panicking is that Frost is a done deal if Chip chooses UCLA.

Today I got some more confirmation of Chip to UCLA before it was widely reported (but was in the middle of three runs to get rid of excess stuff as we prepare to move). Was also told that the conversations would be reassuring for Duck fans.

One side note, heard Chip to UCLA is not 100% done deal. If he decides he wants to coach in 2018, UCLA will likely be the deatination; but also hearing it is a possibility he waits another year.

Tyler Shough post-visit notes

2018 QB Tyler Shough is an absolutely key component to this class. This last weekend, he was here for an unofficial visit and I caught up with him to get the details. Full story scheduled to publish at 8 a.m. Tuesday, in the meantime here are some details.
  • This was his first-ever game at Autzen. Said "it was awesome"
  • Made trip with mom, dad, brother, and grandparents
  • Got to hang out with a number of prospects; Jalen Hall, Jashaun Corbin and Jaylen Waddle the most
  • Will return for an OV on Dec. 15th during the Ducks' big recruiting weekend

Taggart Extension?

Noticed that Iowa St increased their HC’s buyout and gave him a raise. Couldn’t UO basically shut a lot of this garbage down by simply following Iowa St’s lead and doing the same thing? Yes it’ll be expensive but its much better then having no HC, losing assistants and staring over. Kinda concerned Mullens isn’t being more proacative in this situation.

Which 5 - Or More?

Brandon & A.J.
With Winston we are now at 25. But in looking at your reviews and discussion we are seriously in the hunt for 9.

At WR we have 4 for 1 or 2 slots. Williams has been very silent and with his past interest in UCLA and the buzz with Chip are we slipping with both he and Cota? Can we take actually take 2 more here. Will we really take 2 more DB's - Gervin and Hufanga. And at LB can we find a spot for Tuliaupupu is we hit a home run and we wants to commit. Then there is Sewell. If we hit on all (2 WR) we still have 7 for 5 slots. Is there an assumption of loss? Seems like staff has done one hell of a job on keeping all ducks in the fold.

Would love some insight on how this can all fit if Willie keeps rolling as he has. I know it's a nice position to be in.

The good and bad news about Oregon basketball

The bad new is they suck. The good news is they will not lose any players to the NBA next season!!

Boy, Altman has his work cut out for him.I love what he said after the game though. "We have a lot of volunteers to pound it and shoot it,but no volunteers to do the dirty work."

Troy Brown not even close to being NBA ready and none of the other freshman either. The team IQ seems really, really low. Here is what I see

1) No bit time player, or leader who can make a play at the end of a game

2) Their offense seems to be stand around and watch the guy with the ball dribble

3) As a team, and especially the left handed Brown, they pass up good shots and shoot crappy shots

4) Individual defense is pathetic. They run up to their man and stand up straight. Don't get their butts down and don't move their feet. This is why they foul so much. Dana should throw the 5 guys out their that want to work on defense even if they lose the rest of their games.Every guy on this team plays defense like its an AAU summer game

Dana got it exactly right about the lack of volunteers to do the hard stuff. No hard screens,no hard cuts,no blocking out, giving upon defense when your man gets a step on you. The press showed a complete lack of hustle. The offense is not an offense. Its dribbling around the perimeter and then turning it over or jacking up a crappy shot

As bad as they are,am I giving upon them? No,I have seen Altman's teams make great improvement in the course of a season. He has some talent. Even with his coaching though they have to develop a player or two who can take over a game at the end. It is not Prichard. That's for sure. It can happen but Altman got his toughest job in many years. His first step is to bench the guys who want to do their own summer league thing
