Fall Camp: Wednesday notes

With a little over a week to go before the Ducks’ November 7th opener against Stanford Mario Cristobal and his Ducks were forced to regroup after five positive Covid test results prior to their scrimmage on Saturday. On Monday they found out the tests were false-positives and continued their on-field fall camp.

Coach Cristobal gave some updates Tuesday night on the last few days.

We have resumed normal operations ever since then.

Protocol goes right through the health authorities and our medical staff. Everything was followed to the ‘T’ and that’s what we did. Sometimes it makes you a little impatient and you want to get going right away but it took about a day ago, it was done and we have resumed our practices like we normally do.

It’s that kind of year. You have to adapt and move on.

Making the best of the canceled scrimmage

When you lose a scrimmage, it is pretty impactful. You really cannot cram an extra 130 plays into the rest of your schedule. We did plan to play live ball anyway through the course of this week and we have. We did today as well.

We had a plan to have a scrimmage then two days off of our feet. We ended up having two days off our feet then a very thorough walk through last night with the guys who were not waiting for results.

So we still made a lot out of it in every phase, offense defense and special teams. We took a deep dive into our schematical our corrections, issues, areas of improvement. Jumped into some of the things that we have faced in the past that we may face this year that have given us problems.

So we made great use of it. Our meeting were still intact both Zoom and in person.

Today we got after it. Today’s practice was a very thorough, long, physical football practice. Typical Oregon Tuesday.

QB competition

Naming one, I think that is more important for the outside world than it is internally. Our guys watch our guys perform. Right now our guys have tremendous confidence in two guys, Tyler Shough is currently running with the ones. That being said, Anthony has done and had a great camp. He is right there pushing is going to continue to push.

It is important to mention Jay Butterfield has done a great job and has really started pushing ahead as a guy that can be counted on. A guy that is getting the majority of the third team reps.

Justin Herbert’s rookie season with the Chargers

I think everyone that is on here that has seen him play forever, everyone is super excited and happy but I don’t think anyone is surprised. Not in this camp over here. The part that I enjoy most is people getting to see what kind of leader and person he is. I think we all knew that we were going to see the magic on the field that he creates as a player.

I have it cut up for me so I can speed through it. I am so grateful he is such a big timer when I get a text message back from him.
