Fifth Quarter 2020: OSU

I am probably a tougher grader than others, so take that into account.

I have a thought prior to this, though, upon which I will expand in Monday's 3-2-1 piece: Oregon more than any other team needs a full offseason program to be at their best. The biggest thing that used to plague USC was that they had all the 4 and 5 start talent and played down. I think Oregon had overcome that under Cristobal; but it was the offseason that helped the team perform at their potential and without that, this team looked like some of those USC teams of old.

Anyway, here is this week's Fifth Quarter:

Weren't going anywhere with that defense, but......

of all the things to be pissed off while watching this game, the one that bugs me the most is the 2nd to last drive when they could have put it away. They needed one first down to win the game and they choose to run the ball twice up the middle and then a pathetic pass attempt on 3rd down. Did anyone else besides the Duck coaches think that they had any chance to win if they didn't get that one first down? When you play not to lose instead of playing to win, you deserve to lose

This is is a rebuilding year. The defense is not good at any level. Why, I don't know , but the returners have mostly regressed. On offense they do some great things but Tyler makes some horrible decisions and never sees the backside conerage. He was lucky the first 3 games that he got away with the horrible decisions , but you knew it would catch up with him. He has the talent, but can't win with him until he fixes his pre- determing where he is going with the ball

Rebuilding year and even they had managed to win, they would not really be a top 15 football team. Congratulations to coah Smith. He has the better team right now

Happy Thanksgiving

It’s 6:30 pm in Doha and while we are celebrating tomorrow because we don’t have the day off here I wanted to say happy thanksgiving to all the DSA brothers and sisters. I hope it’s a wonderful day for all of you even if you aren’t able to celebrate the way you traditionally would. Be safe, have a lot of turkey or your choice of sides, and have some good beer for this duck stuck in the Middle East for one last turkey day.

Ducks have strong connection with Rivals250 OL

I had not connected with four-star 2022 OL DJ Moore since his season began, so I reached out to him this week and he was telling me Oregon is one of two schools he is particularly strong with right now. He talks about that in the article linked below:

WBB: Ducks add 6-foot-8 center to 2021 class

Can we get confirmation on a 6'8" young lady from Calgary I believe who is verballing for the class of 21'. Her name is Philipina Kyei per another site.
Man the size and talent on the WBB team is off the charts and looks to be continuing. Graves says this is the best shooting team all around from the perimeter he has had and Prince (6'7") sounds like all world and the way he raves about Pao Pao....sheesh they are going to be good when they jell.

Knicks hire Aaron Brooks

NEW YORK – The New York Knicks have added Oregon Hall of Famer Aaron Brooks to their coaching staff.

Brooks, a 10-year NBA veteran, will be a two-way liaison, assisting the Knicks at both the NBA and the G-League levels.

The Seattle, Wash., native can be found throughout the Oregon record book. He is 14th in scoring (1,511 points), fifth in assists (471), ninth in steals (127) and sixth in three-pointers (205).

He led the Pac-10 in scoring as a senior in 2006-07 at 17.7 points per game when he led Oregon to the NCAA Midwest Regional final where the Ducks fell to eventual national champion Florida, 85-77. It was the Gators’ closest game of the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

Brooks is best remembered for his game-winning shot against UCLA when the Ducks took down the top-ranked Bruins 68-66 in McArthur Court on Jan. 6, 2007.

After being named all-Pac-10 first team and a first team All-American by the Wooden Award, Brooks was selected as the 26th overall pick by the Houston Rockets in the 2007 NBA Draft. He was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2009-10 after averaging a career best 19.6 points, 5.3 assists and 2.6 rebounds over 35.6 minutes in 82 games for the Rockets.

Brooks played 10 seasons in the NBA, averaging 9.7 points and 3.0 assists in 645 career games (183 starts) for Houston, Phoenix, Sacramento, Denver, Chicago, Indiana and Minnesota. He joins the Knicks after last playing in Australia with the Illawarra Hawks in 2019.

Brooks is familiar with Knicks’ head coach Tom Thibodeau, having played for him in Chicago during the 2014-15 season and in Minnesota during the 2017-18 season.

The four-year letterman was inducted into the Oregon Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.

How impressive is Herbert? Quite.

So, tooling around stats a bit today, and concluded that at this point, Herbert HAS to be the prohibitive favorite for offensive ROY. In terms of total passing yards, he's 8th behind several largely more seasoned veterans. He's ranked 6th in passing TDs, again behind a bunch of veterans. But remember, he's only played 9 games to his peers' 10, and if we extend both categories to include a tenth game at his average number, he'd be 2nd, behind Mahomes, in yards, and 4th, behind Wilson, Rodgers, and Mahomes in TDs. Can't get much better than that. Hell, yesterday alone, his passing and running accounted for 377 (366 passing, 11 rushing) of the team's 395 total yards.

Gotta love the fact that he has this year to learn and settle into his game in the League with no opposing fans making things more difficult for a newbie. By the time he faces the true NFL experience, he'll have a full season under his belt. Perfect *chef's kiss*

Changing the lyrics to Beaver fight song

Just saw on another site someone with the thread starting out " OSU our pants are off to you". My first year as a Duck fan was 1964 when I was in the 3rd grade. Bob Berrry was the star QB. My buddy and I changed the opening line of Beaver fight song to " Beavers...Beavers.....peeing down the field" We thought we were hilarious. We use that line to this day. It struck me how little my peers and I have matured. Also struck with the fact I have no problem at all with that lack of maturity

Pittman

Scott made mention in his Monday article that he predicted a big game for Pittman against OS. Was there any update on his status yesterday? I listened to MC's presser and did not hear his name mentioned as one of the returning guys. Maybe I missed it. Anyone else hear anything about him playing on Friday???
