Since it is after the early signing period a lot of targets have been erased from the board. The coaching change has removed a few more. But I have to wonder if the new staff opens up more interest in Oregon football. We have to suspect the new staff is as good or better than the very successful one which just departed. I'd think recruit targets were aware of the somewhat plodding offense which never shined under MC, made aware of the limited snaps available to some back-ups in the QB and RB rooms. Aside from the commitment by Cristobal to offensive linemen, how much excitement did he offer? Lanning promises a return to the type of offense which made Oregon a dream school. I'm not sure he can fully deliver since part of the success then was facilitated by a new concept of tempo, no huddle, offense which defenses were not prepared for. They are now. Still, the promises is there and Lanning will attract a lot of defensive talent in addition to what is already on hand, thanks to his recent success at George on that side of the ball.
I've got to think Oregon is a better draw for recruits that it was for the last staff. I'm thinking it may begin to show in the regular signing day, a few later commits, and the portal. Not sure how high his first class will be rated but I'm thinking it will be a bit better than most of us suspected, and may make the top 15. Not sure where it will rank in the conference either. With so many coaching changes Oregon is not alone in having players who rethink their choices or reevaluate their opportunities. Oregon has a national recruiting footprint reputation. I doubt the new hires will shrink it and may increase it.
Any of you have ideas on these things? Love to star a conversation before signing day gets here.
