Beav's Lost RB Coach to Baylor

Does Baylor have a thing for Oregon teams, or at least their coaching staff? This really hurts them, and I'd hate to see Martinez follow him, but wouldn't bet against it.

"During his two seasons at Oregon State, Steward coached two first-team all-conference running backs in B.J. Baylor and Damien Martinez. Baylor, who ran for 1,337 yards in 2021, was the first Beaver running back since 2003 to earn Pac-12 first team honors. Martinez posted six consecutive 100-yard games on his way to becoming the conference’s 2022 offensive freshman of the year"

Polynesian Bowl Exusive: Duce Robinson talks Oregon

When he was being interviewed Tuesday, Robinson voluntarily added Oregon to the other three schools mentioned to him, so that was an interesting note I thought.

Says Lanning has not yet scheduled an in home visit yet.

Here is the full interview:

Polynesian Bowl: Day 3 thoughts

Not a ton today, but some notes.

- We caught up with Duce Robinson for an exclusive. He had a meeting and session with the Dodgers on Monday. He wants to do an official to Oregon, but basketball might get in the way of that. Has had in homes with Mehringer, but nothing with Lanning yet.

Interview will be up tomorrow morning.

- Duce got his first baseball offer from Oregon and likes the baseball staff.

- Despite Rod Pleasant's praise of the Oregon program, I don't think he ends up a Duck. I don't do official predictions, but if I did, it would not be for Oregon and my confidence would be pretty high for where I think he ends up.

- The staff is not giving up on Pleasant and will swing for the fences the best they can, but I odds right now are stacked against Oregon.

- Some stuff about Matayo's illness, it was pretty serious, but he is fully recovered and it is nothing that will affect his ability to play. DJ was with him the whole time in the hospital and the two are very tight.

- DJ is really excited to get to OSU and they feel he has better support around him there and will be in a better place from a personal football perspective.

- Kodi DeCambra had a good day today during 7-on-7 stuff. At one point he had to correct the coach on the offensive formation of a previous play, so that was a really good sign.

Mark Richt

When Richt suddenly retired from Miami, there was plenty of speculation about the reasons.

Truth is it was medical, but he had kept it mostly private. Today he shared with us why he retired and why he really enjoyed being back on the field.

Richt is suffering from Parkinson's. The travel and non-stop nature of college coaching was too much for his health. He loves being out here though and I will get a piece from him later in the week.

Kodi Decambra

One of the things I spoke with others about today was Kodi's arrival date. Originally from Hawaii, Kodi was adamant that he really wanted tp play in this game; it has special meaning for him. Had he shown up with everyonelse and enrolled last week, that would not have been possible. That is part of the reason that he wanted to wait to enroll for spring ball.

Here is the caveat: he has already graduated and the staff really hope he can get to Eugene after this and enroll now. It is a very real possibility which would give him an extra three months of prep time.

Interview with Kodi coming up tomorrow afternoon where we talk his excitement for his first year, the atmosphere in Eugene, and a special tattoo on his leg.

Nyckoles Harbor

I read an article on Chile’s track board that claims that Maryland is going after Nyckoles daily. He hasn’t decided yet, but from what his father says Oregon has been a dream school of his for a long time. Lanning is in the DC area to talk with the Harbors. The track facilities are a huge factor. He has run at Hayward and the family loved the stadium and the campus. I am feeling good about this one, He still has his official to go. Harbor is very serious about track and football … and so is Oregon!

I’d post the article, but it was taken from a direct rival of Rivals …. and I’m not referring to Chile’s site…he is part of our family and a friend to DSA.

Commitment: Local QB Brock Thomas joining the Ducks

Sheldon quarterback Brock Thomas has announced his commitment to the Ducks tonight. The 6-foot signal caller had a stellar senior season as he finished the year with 2,895 yards passing to go with 41 passing touchdowns against just 5 interceptions. He has passed for nearly 6,000 yards in his high school career. He also rushed for 747 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground during the 2022 season. Still trying to get confirmation on whether or not he will be a preferred walk-on. That had been the feeling, but Dan Lanning tweeted his "?" emoji tweet earlier, which is usually reserved for scholarship additions. If the Ducks are able to add him as a PWO it is one heck of an addition since he has been highly productive throughout his high school career plus he held scholarship offers from programs such as Northern Arizona and Eastern Washington in addition to opportunities at Air Force and Army.

Poly Bowl: Day One

There are always feeling out periods for All-American practices, but I thought that the first day was very good all things considered. Just a few observations from the first day.

- Matayo Uiagalelei has a kind of humility that I really like. He has learned a lot from his brother and I think that plays into it. Sometimes at these games, you will get elite players that don't want to take reps, but Matayo was out there for every rep and was engaged with the coaches and the players. Our first interview will be up in the morning, but I will post it here in a bit.

- Iapani Laloulu is not participating this week due to a knee injury suffered during his senior season. it is not serious, but he is working to get ready for next year. He is not as tall as his brother, but the plan is to try and get him worked into the rotation at center which is a really good fit.

- Kodi Decambra looked good in 7-on-7 drills and showed good instincts and a nice break on the ball. He is a leader out there and works hard on every rep.

- Vita Pome'e is a big dude. I did not get to see as many reps fromn him as I would have liked today, but will get some looks at him tomorrow.

- Jayden Limar is really stacked. He looked really good in drills. He showed good vision on some of the stuff, but it is really hard to see much without pads.

- Teitum Tuioti is not listed on the roster, so we won't likely get much from him.

- Rodrick Pleasant is fast even on the football field. Even if soemone gets a good move to get open, his recovery speed is insane.

- Duce Robinson does not get in until late today.

More tomorrow!
