The Future is Bright...

My apologies up front for invading the current topic at hand with my long opinion as I usually just read and Like posts. But, apparently my wife and kids are tired of hearing my thoughts.

The coaching search currently seems be centered around a combo of fresh faced up and coming program builders and the return of the guy responsible for the elite expectations.

Herbert, Dye, Schooler, Breeze...4 names that any coach knowing they had recent culture issues to correct would love to have as the foundation. For everything that has been leaked that pointed to serious lack of peer leadership and "we" from the upperclassmen points in the opposite and right direction with these freshmen.

So whether it be Fleck, Taggart, Chip or a couple of the other names mentioned it's very exciting to think what these candidates could do with these young guys.

Couple thoughts for discussion on the search...

Scott mentioned recently that the PK's are leading the search. With that being the case it could make sense that Chip is still being heavily pursued. It's kind of Uncle Phil's MO, right?!..i.e. the William Perez, re-insert himself, then Mark Parker scenario. Just a thought.

IMHO and for my own personal interest as I like watching the evolution when a new CEO takes over a fledging organization, I think Chip, Fleck, and Taggart are wins.

Names that would be difficult to get behind...Schiano, Kiffen!

Coaches I think would be a positive to keep...Lubbock, Yost, Coach Cam if he doesn't retire. That's it.

MAC Title Critique

There's bound to be a Greek chorus gnashing and tearing togas over this one, so let's get it over with. WMU didn't cover the three score prediction over Ohio and frankly didn't look dominant at all.

Fleck's play call selection, especially in the first half when the Wildcats were giving it up, should have put the game out of reach early. But the hammerhead plunges ala Chip went nowhere and were anticipated by a wily 72 year old coach who'd been there, done that.

Fleck was lucky to win one he should have walked away with. And the sideline looked more like a high school pep rally than an FBS level operation, including Fleck himself. The man is more manic than I'd like, truth be told, racing up and down when he was't pacing up and down.

The problem with all of this is that it's grossly unfair to the man, since none of us has seen his fantastic body of work this year. And it's a bit unfortunate for us, since we expected the kind of flash and dash we're accustomed to and absolutely need to keep our brand alive.

The takeaway is that the Broncos won with defense at the end, something we haven't seen here in a while. But why is it that it doesn't seem good enough to get this Duck excited over wanting this coach as much as before the game?

New Coach and Recruiting Window

Seems to me the timing of our coaching change couldn't be more critical in regard to recruiting and finishing out this class. Scott can you or AJ talk about recruiting in relation to a new hire and will there be any blackout periods or limited contact periods now through signing day? What expectations should fans have for the new coach and the ranking of the 2017 recruiting class?

Ken Niumatalolo

I just heard an interview in which it is mentioned that Phil Knight has an adviser that is really a big believer in Ken.

I like this guy....even if he's at the Naval Academy and beats up on my good friend AJ Jacobson's alma mater every year.

He's been the head coach at Navy for 10 seasons....and he has a solid 77-40 record.
Last season he went 11-2.
He is 9-3 with Army and a Bowl game left.

He is originally from Hawaii.

I am impressed that he has been at a school that does a good job of imitating the high standards of their role model in West Point NY.

When I was watching him coach against Army on TV one year, I remarked that he would be a good coach to keep an eye on should Oregon need to go outside the system to find a coach.Well here we are.

Another "Development Game" Sav. St. (that we wish had been before Maui)

I don't think DSA should feel obligated to have to watch all these early non-games, just sayin' if ya'll have better things to do.I saw it's on P12 network. The conference games, on the other hand, are gonna be tough this year, from the looks of it.
It'd be nice if they can get their shooting % up, even while playing the entire bench.

Wallace and Franklin

Has this been posted?

They have been charged with rape

The charge is that this happened during the season.

I think that Helfrich is a class Guy, but the main reason that I'm glad that he is gone is based upon the recent trend that we're hearing about regarding some football player's behavior issues. Something is/was wrong with the people assigned to oversight. I won't assume guilt, but this isn't the first bad behavior charge in the past few weeks.

I hope that our other sport's coaches caution their athletes to steer clear of some of the football team members until some kind of sanity and order is restored.

The UO can't afford to see this cancer spread to other sports. Frankly, I'm sickened by this recent allegation. I hope that the allegation is false.

Rhule

I like Fleck well enough but I would rather have a guy like Ruhl.

More experience, turned around a program as well and is not so high schoolish.

BTW, his defense is stifling Navy...and Navy's offense rocks.

Coached as an assistant at UCLA (among other schools)...been in the Pac-12.

Played for Joe Paterno

Coached in the NFL for Tom Coughlin at the Giants

Only 41 years old. 5 years older than Fleck...I like that.

Temple HC Record....in a much tougher conference than PJ

2013 2-10
2014 6-6
2015 10-4
2016 9-2 (looks like 10-3)

Nice turn around.

I'd stack him up to PJ any day
