Best case scenario is Taggart playing this out for big moment

One of the reasons Taggart is the best recruiter around is that he has a great feel for dramatic moments that draw national attention. The event in July where the Ducks got 6 highly rated recruits, and the commits at last years spring game are examples.

If Willie Taggart was to pass on the FSU job and sign an extension with Oregon,it would show every recruit in the country that Taggart just passed on his supposed dream job, and is probably not going anywhere for awhile. It would show that he believes he can win a National Championship in Eugene,OR

This would be dynamite stuff going into the to he big recruiting weekend of December 15th.I believe if this happens, the Ducks finish with some big time gets and end up in the top 3 or 4 class in the nation

It's Entertainment, After All

Having been on both sides of the fence regarding WT going, staying, being transported to heaven or Tallahassee, I now don't give a fat rat's ass.

Willie, you aren't the second coming...maybe the 18th to some die hard fans who still believe college football has any relationship to a beloved alma mater. Mens Agitat Molem to you Duck fans who believe you graduated and profited because of football.

That we are the pawns of some agent who we admire because he screws us, defines us as some gaggle of turkeys in the rain and would die because we don't know how to come in out of it.

To us old timers who hadn't watched Oregon football post graduation because it was a sure way to get drunk, Im not sure that the present idiocy of making pashas of coaches will entice us to sobriety.

At least we had reasonable expectations..or were grateful for any winning season.

Willie Taggart is not necessary to my happiness anymore than Chip Kelly. I now don't really care if
Willie goes or stays because he is a part of the mercenary tribe of an axis of coaches and agents who have effectively made the game their own to play.

Buying tickets depends on what they deem to give us....for a price....as long as we are entertained.
We are the Oregon Ducks. Not the Willie Taggarts.

Mini Taggart Update

Just spoke with a source who has had direct communication with Taggart.

What I was told is that Taggart says he has not had any contact with FSU. There is absolutely not a formal offer from FSU at this point.

Source also indicated that the newest Oregon offer is going to be in the 6 year, 4.5 + mil per year range.

Same source also heard that FSU not going to go over 4-4.5 mil for Taggart if they offer at all. Source believes that Fuente might be the primary target but that Taggart name leaked to keep negotiations quiet.

Only a single source so take it for what it's worth.

Mullens/Knight/Oregon Football

It is unfortunately beginning to look to me like Mullens is a totally incompetent fool and Knight has Alzheimer's Disease. This whole Taggart affair is a bad joke. You couldn't torpedo a Football Program so completely if you had planned this whole chain of events in advance. I wouldn't blame the season ticket holders for cancelling in mass. I sure am.If Oregon lose's it's 2018 recruit base they might as well drop down to Division 2 Football.

Coaching circus update...

12/1/17 2:50 pm update

Justin Herbert addressing media. Said that Taggart had not talked to the team much about FSU and that they aren't spending time on it.

Jalen Jelks: "We just kind of keep it as a team thing right now. We kind of talked about it small and shortly. He (Taggart) said 'I'm with you guys and I'm with the Ducks.'

For his part, Taggart said he talked with his players in a team meeting.

"I addressed it with them as soon as I got back from recruiting," said Taggart. "I explained to them and also used it as a teaching moment, to make them understand how it all works. How social media works, how rumors work. I’m open and honest with our players and will always be that way with them"

Taggart said neither he nor his agent has been contacted by FSU but, he said about his Oregon contract extension: "My agent and they are all looking through the contract. When all things are as supposed to be we’ll go from there."

Asked if he would be the football coach at Oregon next year. "Why wouldn’t I be. I’m the football coach."

12/1/17 1:45 pm update

Taggart scheduled for a pre-practice availability today at 2:00 pm. It will actually be later than that, I would expect it to start around 2:30. We will surely ask him all the questions about FSU. But I would not think he will answer them other than to say he is happy at Oregon and he has not spoken to anybody.

From the FSU perspective, it is becoming clear that Taggart is at least one of their top candidates. The other relevant item coming from our FSU sources is that they want to move very fast on this hire.

Also interestingly, Fisher wanted to coach tomorrow but since the writing was on the wall, FSU asked him to resign now. So we are where we are: FSU with a coaching vacancy and their fan base more or less uniting behind wanting Taggart.

Jimbo Fisher takes the TAMU job as expected. Now the FSU search committee can get going in earnest and we will find out how serious they are about WT.

Fwiw, I spoke to an excellent source a few minutes ago and he confirmed that there has been no offer between WT and FSU yet. They have not indicated who their short list is yet but Taggart will probably be included.

Just to put a little perspective on things, I am hearing that despite rumors to the contrary, there is no deal, at all, between Taggart and FSU at this point. There has been absolutely no "assembling of staff" or anything even remotely like it.

At this point, FSU is simply in preparation mode in case Fisher jumps to TAMU. That is seen as very likely by both camps. Both schools are preferring that Fisher not coach on Saturday. That tells me that both schools think it's a done deal.

So right now FSU is in the process of vetting names and preparing contingencies in case something opens. They have not offered anybody or are even close to it. Any rumors otherwise are incorrect and self-serving.

On the other hand, how in the world could there be a contract in place, an assembly of staff...without a coaching search? Does that smell right?

Think to yourself...If I am right and there is nothing to the rumors of FSU putting together some deal with WT (as of today)...then who would benefit from spreading such rumors? Who would do that and why?

An agent negotiating a contract extension maybe?

My thoughts concerning Willie Taggart’s decision.

Mr. Taggart ,

I know the dilemma you are in is not of your making and the last thing you wanted to see happen at this juncture in your career, but just the way the chips have fallen in the last few days. You must be feeling a lot of pressure from all sides concerning your decision to remain with Oregon or take the Florida State Coaching job. I know you are in agonizing situation in regard to this choice. I would like to offer you a few things to ponder as you come to your decision.

1. This is a choice that will define your legacy as both a football coach and as a person for the rest of your life.

2. You have done an exceptional job in instilling a new vibrant atmosphere for the Oregon Athletic Program this year.

3. The University of Oregon Administration and fan base have embraced you and your oft stated quest to bring a National Championship to Oregon.

4. Your current players and the recruits you have committed to Oregon have great respect and love for you both as a person and coach.

5. You can remain as the Head coach of Oregon and finish the job you have told the University of Oregon Administration, players and recruits that you promised you would do. If you do decide to remain and complete the job that the University of Oregon and it’s fan base brought you to Oregon to do, you will enhance your reputation as a classy individual with integrity and a man who honors his word, which of late in the College football world seem to be in short supply.

6. If you leave for the Coaching job at Florida State at this juncture, the decision to do so may well tarnish your reputation as a man of honor with lack of integrity and will hang over your head for the rest of your career as a few other coaches have learned to their regret.

7. I am sure that the FSU job opportunity will be there for you again sometime in the future.

8. In the long run, a decision to remain at Oregon and succeed, will actually make it more likely that you will have an opportunity to coach at FSU(which I realize you said is your “dream job” )at some point in the future as I am sure that there will be more occasions for you to do so down the road.

9. To go this route would cement your legacy as a man with honor and integrity and not as a coach who bolts at the first opportunity that comes down the road as I have too often seen other Coaches do , in most cases as a money grab.

10. By staying at Oregon you will show the coaching world, the University of Oregon and its fan base that you are a man with high character and be a great example for your players and recruits as a man who can be trusted to honor his word.

11. In conclusion, I believe character and integrity are the most important values a person can have in life and define him as person.

Sincerely
JmcdonaldF

Taggart vs Wilcox

I'm enraged! As far as I'm concerned if this sleazy self centered low life is the kind of opportunistic mercenary that would desert his commitment to Oregon after just one season just so that he could make more money and be able to go back to where he is originally from, then I say good riddance to the selfish SOB. I hope that Oregon screws him over by not offering him one more dime in order to keep him. That way FSU won't have to offer as much to get this jerk!

After all we have options ... we could go after Justin Wilcox! I like Wilcox. He's a Duck! He at least has some moral standards ....unlike that sleazy Willie who has considered walking out on us after just one season. Justin grew up in Oregon and would probably love to come home. If we offered him a nice fat raise I bet that we could get him.

I THINK I HAVE IT ALL FIGURED OUT

Friday Edition

1. Either WT loves Eugene or he loves Florida more.
2. Either his agent is super smart or he is the devil incarnate
3. Either WT has a deal in place with FSU or neither his agent or he have talked to them.
4. Either WT is lying to his recruits or he is not.
5. Either WT lied at his press conference or he did not.
6. Either WT is the best coach in the country with a lifetime losing record or he is not.
7. Either posters on this board have inside dope or they do not.
8. Either WT is the best recruiter in the country or Cristbol or one of the Clemson guys are.
9. Either the football program will die if WT leaves or it will not.
10.Either Tennessee is the most screwed up program in the country or....well...it is.

I think that about covers it.
