Welp...

The pressure is really on for the new strength staff to get these dudes in top notch performance shape and for the coaching staff to prove they can coach up... we are back in the ‘do more with less’ zone until we prove ourselves. Whiffing on so many we were leading for is rooooough. Reminds me why I quit paying attention for so long. (I do understand this is a high end level class compared to Belotti days though, and reminiscent of the Kelly days... so close... but nope).

This off season and next year will be pivotal. Hope these dudes are willing to grind harder than everyone else! Because that’s what it will take to get back up the ladder. On and off the field.

Wednesday War Room: 2018 Signing Day Central - With Updates

Will have this up at 7:00 am PST (an hour earlier than normal) with a bunch of updates, predictions and announcement times for Oregon targets.

Here is the schedule from the bottom of the War Room:

(All Times PST)
Tre'Shaun Harrison: 7:45
Joseph Ossai: 8:45
Jeremiah Martin: 10:00
Devon Williams: 11:00
Jaylen Waddle: 1:30
Michael Ezeike: 1:30
Penei Sewell: 2:00

Penei Sewell watch...

I am a glutton for punishment but I am going to stick with Sewell to Oregon. Yes, Utah is tough to compete against for Polys in these situations but it seems that he has been leaning this way his whole recruitment and since the Duck staff is not after any other OL, is showing confidence in him being a Duck.

Signing him would move the 2018 OL class from Good to Very Good.

Don't feel the Ducks are going to close well at all

Not trying to be negative.Considering Ducks lost their POS coach, having a top 15 or so class is not bad.Just saying that reading between the lines, I would not be shocked to see an O'fer on guys Ducks are still in on. Don't see them being the favorite on any of them.

At this point if they can hang on to Winston and Johnson, and get maybe 2 of these other guys,I would take it. Just hanging on to those two linebackers would be decent as I have a feeling they will lose one or both

On a brighter note,I just looked at the film of JJ Tucker.Big kid with good speed and hands.More importantly, he WANTS to be a Duck, and that means he will probably come in and work.Based on his film, he could be a good one. One of those guys that teams miss on.Happens all the time.

Just a suggestion for the boards...

Posters please make good points, debate, disagree, that's all good. But please, just do not sound like a baby or whine as that solves nothing. We all love the Ducks, don't ever forget that when talking to another poster. Some people are more negative than others (like those people on Facebook who complain about everything just to get the sympathy of others for validation), but let it go. We are in this together, just with different perspectives and points of view on life. Go Ducks!

2018 Recruiting Hot Board

Alright, starting to throw together a recruiting class breakdown/tracker, with individual pages for each of the positions. As things go along, I will update the positions, as well as the overall class tracker.

Estimates are largely built around the build of the outgoing class and leftover scholarships:

Additionally, there is likely to be some natural attrition, which is sometimes increased with a new staff in place.

For those wondering how a class can have more than 25, due to early entry rules, scholarships can be back loaded onto a previous class as long as there was room remaining and the new year PSA comes in early.

Eli'Jah Winston Update

Okay, be prepared. Apparently Central Catholic is holding an early 'signing day' for all of their athletes today at 11:10 AM (PST). He won't actually 'sign' today, but it is a symbolic thing for the school so that they can celebrate all of their athletes.

As part of this, they have prepared two signs for Winston; Oregon and USC. USC folks tell me that they are pursuing Winston hard and he is not a backup plan for them; their pursuit of him now is not related to Solomon T.

That being said, he has given no indication to USC sources whether or not he is going to flip today, but it remains a strong possibility.

On the other side, Oregon sources are not yet worried about WInston leaving the class either.

Tre'Shaun Harrison - Thoughts

Okay. I posted in one of the other threads that his visit was great at FSU and I think that is going to be where he ends up unless there is a post visit luster that wears off and his mom gets cold feet about distance.

However, as much as I know we all love to bash the new FSU head coach one thing about the visit that is creating some consternation is the fact that his high school coach went along with him on the trip. There is plenty of speculation so let me address some if that here:

- He does not have a father present and his coach is the closest thing he has to a father; no different than Spencer Webb's brother and aunt in essence. It was a legitimate inclusion for the trip

- Taggart cannot hire this coach for an off field position for two years if he does in fact sign Harrison, so there is no quid pro quo in this.

- If we want to throw out accusations of 'he was paid' every time someone goes elsewhere, just remember that is what USC folks still say about DAT (and Texas folks still think Oregon paid Lache Seastrunk as well).

- Yes, Harrison's coach is one of the few people who bought into the negative recruiting tactic that Oregon was going to be like Alabama only even more conservative. (My response would be 'okay, sure, we are going to be just like Alabama and put Julio Jones, Amari Cooper, Calvin Ridley and countless other wideouts into the league; remind me again how many receivers who played for Taggart made it to the league and stayed?'')

- From our FSU people, Taggart's pitch ofbeing like a father is resonating with Harrison's family. His mom gave Taggart a long hug at the end of the trip.

- Don't read too much into the brevity of Harrison's tweet. He is not trolling Willie Taggart or 'playing' him; he likes FSU and they are, right now, his choice. That could change in the next two days as the Oregon staff continues to try and get him back into the fold.

- I expect some recruits to start tagging top targets in the next couple of days; but I also know that they are talking off line via text.
