Potential four-star official visitor this spring

Talking with Delaware four-star OL Saleem Wormley at a Rivals Camp this weekend, he told me Oregon was one of two schools he could still schedule an official visit with this spring. He plans to decide in July. More on Wormley in the article below:

All or Nothing- Michigan

I know this is not Oregon related but if you're a fan of college football you should check out the Amazon Prime series, All or Nothing. What a great look at the college football season and the mindset of Jim Harbaugh.

It also illustrated the need for good to great, and most importantly consistent, QB play at this elite level to make the difference between being an average college team and one playing for championships.

Harbaugh is an interesting head coach. Don Brown, their DC, is fiery and fun to watch. I would run through a brick wall for that guy.

Can't help but like their players and what they wanted to accomplish on the field and in life.

Track Teams Throw Hat into The Ring

This weekend Oregon's men and women's track teams emerged from the shadows of the NCAA powerhouses. What happened this weekend was nothing short of magnificent. It gave any red blooded Duck fan that feeling deep down in their soul, that cries out in defiance, "we are Oregon, the fabled track and field program". PRs, school records, and facility records dropped like flies. Just when we thought that we'd seen the miraculous, bigger miracles happened. Topping off this incredible track and field weekend in Corvallis and Tucson, the last event, the 200m competition, ended in a climax that was the highlight of the entire weekend.

Over the course of the past few months, these two teams have continued to improve. Today they took that quantum leap forward for which Oregon track and field teams are renown. If the NCAA Championships were to held next week, neither team would win the title, but the gap between the top teams and Oregon is closing rapidly.

Sport isn't just about winning. There is excitement, drama, and inspiration in the crusade for victory. This team is making a run at greatness. Many felt that the loss of stars like, Edward Chesserek, Raevyn Rogers, Deja Stevens, Kyree King, Hannah Cunliffe and Sasha Wallace would be too much to overcome. After a sluggish start, many felt that the comeback trail was just too ominous to expect much in the way of results this year.

Combine the losses from the program with the losses of some of the top athletes due to injury and many felt the expectations really required a further lowering of the proverbial high jump bar. They underestimated the fight, know how, and determination of this proud program.

No mater the outcome, I consider this team to be a team of champions. They are persisting to develop the hand that they were dealt. Do not feel sorry for the Oregon track program. They have a competitive spirit that more than makes up for their circumstances. Feel sorry for their competition.

Hot Oregon Sprint Results Coming in From Arizona

Wow, Laylay Johnson just ran a 12.75 100 hurdle time!! This is the 6th fastest collegiate time in the nation so far this year. The Oregon women followed that with two very fast 4 X 100 meter races ("A" and "B" teams). These times are the #4 and #9 fastest times in the nation this year. The depth that the Oregon women have in the sprints is really pretty amazing and rare.

Fire On The Track!!

It was blazing hot on the Tucson track today. But as hot as it was, the Ducks heated it up even more.
Eight of the Nine fastest 200 meter times were run by the Duck Women!!! What an amazing feat, and most of them ran Personal Bests in the process. Lauren Rain Williams is looking more and more like the next Superstar for Oregon, crushing her old PR as she cruised to the top time of the day...22.51 (3rd fastest time in the nation so far this year)...and a new Field Record to boot!

Future Oregon track star? He Had His First Race Tonight

Who is Charlie Hunter? I had the pleasure of meeting Charlie last Spring, while he and a few of his Australian friends were touring the USA and getting into some races along the way. When he got to Eugene, and met with Andy Powell, he was blown away with the University of Oregon track program. His hope of coming back to train at the University of Oregon has not been an easy task. For one thing, he is in school and training on his own dime, with the hopes of getting assistance after proving himself, ala Mick Stanovsek. Though he doesn't come in with great times, or even much recent track experience, relative to what we have become accustomed to at Oregon, Charlie seems to have some intangibles that could lead to success. He has the desire to be good, and he has great faith in the Oregon training program.

Tonight, at the OSU High Performance meet, Charlie was entered in the 1500 meet race as an Unattached runner (redshirt). He has to be excited with the 3:44 (a 4:01 mile) that he ran, and Andy Powell has to be smiling a bit this evening. Here is a nice background article to introduce Charlie to the Eugene track fans. Welcome to our newest Duck.
