Outdoor Track Season

Before we turn the page and move on to the outdoor season, I just want to put some perspective on how much was accomplished by our women in the indoor season. Remember how they were decimated by outgoing transfers? Remember that the Powells went on to coach at Washington. That didn’t stop the show. They finished third in the NCAA!

Now let’s move onto the next chapter.

Amazing how defense keeps you in a game

I have been watching Duck basketball for over 50 years and I am pretty sure that the Duck offense in last nights first half was the worst I have ever seen. Dribbling, and standing around, wide open air-balls, out of control drives. It was an absolute mess. Then you look up at halftime and they are only down 6 points.

Defense is mostly effort and therefore you can control it. You don't go through " cold spells " on defense. The past couple of weeks this is the best defense I have seen since the Harter teams, and probably better, because Harter did not have these kind of lengthy athletes

I still have doubts they can do it 4 nights in a row, but whatever happens, they are playing their collective asses off. Amazing how Altman has got them playing this hard after a pretty crappy season

Previewing tonight’s championship game...

The big question is how much is left in the tank? Colorado is the only team who has won the championship winning four days in a row! In looking at last nights minutes PP, King and White are the only three that played big minutes! We will see how we hold up.
Obviously the team has found it’s identity through defense which is mostly all effort. Without looking I think we outscored ASU 25-10 on points off of turnovers. Ballgame right there!!!
Washington will be fresher and want revenge for last weekend but don’t count Dana’s guys out!
There have been many guys with big performances in the tournament but my unsung hero so far has been Amin....:). He has played very well on both ends of the floor. We need unexpected guys tonight to come up big!!!
Go Ducks!!

New hope for the Oregon offense

Marcus Arroyo remains deeply committed to evaluation and self-evaluation, analyzing every play by the Oregon offense last season from multiple perspectives.

In a feature story for the Register-Guard by Steve Mims, he talks about how he has broken down the film from last year, looking for trends, problems and things to use and build on.

He studied what teams are using around the country and developed a plan to improve the productivity of the Ducks attack.

Arroyo has a binder that features clips from each game and analytics from the season when Oregon went 9-4, culminating with a 7-6 win over Michigan State in the Redbox Bowl.

“It is a pretty comprehensive, dialed-in approach on how we evaluate ourselves,” he said. “That’s always the best part of the offseason is after one year you go back and utilize the cut-ups we’ve got and find out exactly where things are. What you like and what approach we want to take. The next part of the offseason is to study what is out there, what trends and things you can do to make you better.”

Arroyo labeled the offseason process as “really, really thorough” and “ultra advanced.”
