I just got back from a fly fishing trip to Montana...watched the Ducks play Stanford surrounded by a bunch of Montana Grizzly fans...that was fun.

Being in Montana fishing made me think about this very special organization: Project Healing Waters.

Basically this is a national group with local chapters that gets disabled veterans together to fly fish, tie flies, take trips and basically offer support to each other through fly fishing.

Each year one of the fly fishing shops in Portland, (Royal Coachman Fly Shop) puts on a trip to Pacific City and hosts these vets.

I have been lucky enough to have been invited to guide some of these men and women on this outing for the last five years. We volunteers show up with our drift boats and rafts and spend the day guiding the vets, searching for sea-run cutthroat trout.

We rarely catch fish, but nobody cares. It is a real pleasure and an honor to spend a day with these folks and I can attest that every one of them has had a great time as well.

So...I am writing this to introduce you all to this organization and would recommend if you or any of your friends are veterans....consider going fishing with your local group sometime.....its very cool (and no experience necessary).

Thanks for your service.

Serious question!

30 rushes for 61 yards. We can make excuses with Hanson out or that CJ doesn’t see the holes, trips over his feet etc. but folks there are not big holes he is missing. He may miss some cut backs I can’t tell.
The question is what to do? One thing I see is JH has to keep it 2-3 times a game and make the defense slow down some. He had today and every game some great opportunities to keep the ball and gain some good yardage. Just be smart and get out of bounds or slide!!
Any more thoughts???

Ducks are one play from a perfect record

The Auburn game was close. Like their last clash with Auburn it came down to the last seconds.

The Ducks could have won that game if they'd made one more play.

We've talked a lot about the 4th and 1 call and a couple of other misfires, but the play that sticks out in my mind is a 4th and 3 by Auburn on the final drive.

Bo Nix didn't have an open receiver and scrambled right.

Troy Dye and Gus Cumberlander converge on him at the line of scrimmage, but Nix dives forward.

Just before his knee hits the turf he reaches the line to gain.

You'll find it at 3:09 of this highlight:

--It was a case of two very good defenders late in the game, gassed by being on the field for most of the fourth quarter. Nix made an athletic move in a desperate situation.

When you talk about Oregon's playoff chances and their record, they were as close as the nose of the football to being 4-0 with a win over the SEC in Texas.

There's still lots to play for and the Ducks have made a nice recovery with a big road win over an old nemesis, but depending on how this season turns out, I'd point to that play as a big turning point. It's a little like the Olympics: years of training come down to one moment.

Of course both teams had other opportunities in the game, but if Dye and Cumberlander make that tackle short of the sticks, the game is over.

To me the goal was always the Rose Bowl, and is most years

In one way the polls and the playoff committee are good for college football.

They get people talking about the sport and debating how teams stack up from spring practice to mid-January.

When you compare the completeness, talent and explosiveness of this Oregon squad to the best around the country, I don't think the Ducks are quite there yet.

The offense is averaging 21 points a game in Power 5 games, and that isn't enough. The teams at the very top have stifling defenses, but they can put points on the board also.

The Ducks have good discipline and a great coaching staff. They seemed to have solved their road woes, strong out of the gate in both their games away from Autzen.

It's reasonable to expect they'll continue to improve, but cracking that top 4 would require a series of fortunate events.

To me that's okay. What I wanted to see from in Cristobal Year 2 was to continue the growth of the
program, sustain the recruiting momentum and compete for the PAC-12 title.

So far they are doing all of that. If they beat Cal after the bye week they'll be in the driver's seat in the North. Sweep in October and they'd have a commanding lead.

Like Kelly used to say, keep your head down, keep working and look up at the end of the year.

Two Duck Teams in Doha Qatar

We know that there will be Duck Track alumni competing in the upcoming World Track Championships, but did you know that they aren’t the only Duck team in Qatar? The University also will have a team of journalists at the meet.

Chileduck recently became aware of the J school’s track bureau, and through him I have become aware of it.

Go Ducks!!!... both those that are on the track and field and those that are in the press box!
