Miami Marlins Coronavirus Crisis

Well, that didn't take long.

The first week of MLB and now the Marlins have a dozen players who have tested positive. They are in their hotel in Philly being quarantined, while the Phillies players are being tested.

According to MLB rules, the positive players and coaches have to be quarantined for 14 days.

“This is off-the-charts bad,” said Zachary Binney, an epidemiologist and assistant professor at Oxford College of Emory University. “MLB should probably shut the Marlins down for two weeks, shut the Phillies down for five days and … hope there isn’t a broader problem.”

The Marlins home opener has been postponed.

Nobody really knows yet how this will affect the schedules for the season.

IMHO.....MLB is basically over...even if they don't know it yet.

I believe the same is gonna happen with CFB.

Very sad.

Bol Continues to Impress

I must say he is showing potential, but if he does some of that stuff in meaningful games (if there is such a thing in today's NBA) he will spend more time on the bench. Still, he seems like a good guy and it's fun to see him start out well. As an aside, I read he got PED tested after the first game. He does look slightly stronger,,,hopefully he's drinking protein shakes.

2022 In State Talent.... WR Miles Williams etal

Sounds like a really good athlete. Probably really needs this coming season to shine a light on him. And there's a kid going to Yale, a 20022 TE/DE moved from Eastside Cath to Hood River. Some interesting prospect.s. We'll see if any of them meet the test of a Ducks offer.

Guarded optimism

MLB is back, NBA is practicing, the NFL is scheduled to open camps in a week or two. Even POTUS is wearing a mask. Does it feel like we will have PAC-12 football in mid-September?

In one way it could be a throwback season with the Ducks beginning play in mid-September with perhaps a ten-game schedule. I've seen reports that they're trying to schedule an extra game with Utah or UCLA.

Quick thoughts on Burkhalter...

This commitment happened VERY quickly.

About 5-6 months ago, he was a silent commit to Virginia, then the Cavs kind of cooled on him.

He was set on playing with his brother, a QB who reclassified so they could have that chance. Ole Miss and Nebraska offered the brother, and they were actually thinking hard about committing in June to the Huskers. It almost happened.

Before the brother came into play, Burkhalter wanted to play on the west coast. He was hoping to commit to USC or UCLA at one time early in the process. This Oregon offer gave the opportunity to go west and to play for who I view as the top program in the Pac 12.

As a player, he is a versatile jumbo-athlete with some update. He has to add strength. I would like to see a little more explosiveness. He has that toughness and while being a quiet kid off the field, he plays with that edge on the field. He has had offers to play TE, OLB and WDE, so that tells you the type of athlete schools see him as.

I will see him play this season if all stays on track in Alabama, so I will have more here. He is a versatile kid with room to add weight and he is one I look forward to following this season.

Solid pick up for the Ducks.

Updated Vaccine News

This BBC report updates Covid vaccine information in a very readable but comprehensive article published today:

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-53469839

It is important to know that the leading biotechs in the race to find an effective vaccine are truly global: Oxford/Astrazeneca is British-Swedish; Moderna is US; Valneva is French; BioNtech is German, working with Pfizer, as examples.

So when "WE" is used as a convenient coopting of what is international in scope "we" should be understood in its truthful sense. It is an International effort and not exclusively ours to claim.
