Good News From Santa Cruz and Monterey

the fire weather forecasts continue to be false! The wind is now blowing directly off of the ocean, and it is bringing cool air and that good old coastal fog!!!!
Did I not say that I predicted that if we could get to Monday we were due for fog. That comes from living in front of the ocean for 24 years. You get to where you can almost sense it. This is the game changer that we have been waiting for. The gorgeous Monterey Peninsula ... upon which is Carmel I’d now coated in fog. The fog is a little lighter at my house and Santa Cruz, but the wind is blowing straight off of Monterey Bay towards us. The fog should be increasing. The fog had not currently reached the mountains where the fire is blazing, but the more populated towns seem much more safe now...., and especially your’s truly home!

The battle rages on in the forrest lands in our area, and in the ranching areas at the southern end of her bay, but I’m hearing that the firefighters have benefited from added reserves and cooler temperatures. They seem to be winning the fight right now.
It still all seems surreal. The damage is extensive, but even with thousands of acres burnt we are still a beautiful part of the country, and I love living right hear on the Monterey Bay! I am now really optimistic that my little community will come through
untouched. However, this sends a warning. My community is close to another part of the Santa Cruz Mountains. We also have thousands of acres of forrest land ... and only a mile and a half from my home. Someday a fire like this could happen just up the hill from me.One the other hand, I’ve lived here a long time and it happened yet.
I am not sure what to think

Breaking News ... It just started raining in Santa Cruz

I was watching a live CalFire press conference. Seconds after a Santa Cruz County Sherif spokesperson stepped up to give a report of a death, they had to stop the press conference due to rain.
Good News? Yes, but if it is just a tiny sprinkle it might be bad news because it could be a harbinger for a lightening storm.

As for my location.... I am near the fire, but Santa Cruz and Capitola are nearer to the fire. That is the most densely populated part of this county. They have dug in to stop the fire, at all costs, from getting into Santa Cruz and Capitola. I live about a mile from the Capitola line. It has to get through those cities before it can get to me. I absolutely do not believe it will hit me unless this new lightening storm strikes on this side of the population center. Let’s hope that this sprinkle turns into a down pour. I’m still packing. The fire could burn around the city and still come into my community from another direction. The forrest of Santa Cruz Mountains are only a mile from my home. That forested area near me is still untouched by fire..... but should lightening strike there or should the fire go that direction, then I will be vulnerable. Still, for the time being, I’m safe. By tomorrow more fire fighting reserves will have arrived.

On a happy note. The Ducks that rent down the street but own a home near the worst part of the fire... their home has miraculously been spared so far. It couldn’t happen to nicer people. We are all in mourning over the devastation but all good news is appreciated.

Oh I’m hearing that the storm is passing through quickly and they feel that it will only help a little. So far 74,000 acres of forrest has been burned.

Please understand that all pertains the the Santa Cruz Mountain Fire, and there are several other fires going on.... but not as big or as close to my home.

Thank you all for your good wishes and prayers.

FIRES IN My Area

Although I am staying in place in my home, I
watch my local news daily. 10,000 acres of beautiful redwood forrest land in the Santa Cruz Mts are burning in an uncontained
raging fire. Thousands have had to evacuate their homes. For those who are familiar, this is very unusual for such a lush green area like my area. Looking outside my window, it is orange. I am way out of harm’s way at my home.

According to the news, there is also a large uncontained fire in the beautiful forests of Big Sur in south Monterey County. Plus there is a fire raging in a rural area of Carmel.
These are all areas near the coast and not prone to forrest fires. God help the poor people who have lost their homes during this pandemic!
