Any more Ducks to declare?

I'm hoping that Penei, DLeno and TG4 are the only three that leave, particularly if they are really going to play a spring season.

It is going to be very hard to replace Penei obviously and it looks like it could possibly be somebody very inexperienced like Jonah Tua'anu.

The two CB's were great here but luckily the Ducks are pretty stacked at CB so they will have some good guys like DJ James and Mykael Wright in the battle along with some others.

  • JJIII has said he is staying
  • Jaylon Redd will stay I'm pretty sure
  • Jordon Scott will stay
  • Austin Faoliu? He should stay...I think he will
  • Brady Breeze will stay
  • So the only guy I am wondering about is Jevon Holland
Am I missing anybody?

Basketball Practicing?

Anyone heard anything on this? We have both men's and women's teams capable of contenting. The fan situation is still dicey, but BB seems doable for TV and you don't have to test such a huge number of players. All the focus on CFB, I wonder what the thinking is on this? Then the question will be how many of projected 1st rounders nation wide would choose to sit out?

LSU COACH: MOST PLAYERS HAVE VIRUS

Ed Orgeron says that "most" of his players have the virus and he hopes they will be safe from re-infection for 90 days so they can play football.

Yeah, that would suck if his players caught it again too soon.

Let's worry about the games more than the chance a kid could catch it twice in 90 days. This is kinda a herd immunity theory in action.

Everyone gets it then we don't have to worry about it...for a while....hopefully long enough to play ball.

The problem is that this is not just a flu....it has shown to have, sometimes, longlasting side effects, even in young athletes.

I have stayed out of this conversation for a long time, but, to me, this is exactly why the PAC-12 canceled the season.

Thoughts on new 2022 TE commitment Andre Dollar

Nice get for Oregon in the Sooner State on Sept. 15 morning. The 6-foot-6, 230-plus pound Andre Dollar out of Mustang (Okla.) committed to the Ducks. Michigan, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, South Carolina, Penn State, Minnesota, Arkansas were among Dollar's other offers entering his junior season

After a freshman season in Florida, Dollar had a productive season for Mustang High as a sophomore in 2019. Dollar reportedly boasts a 40 time in the 4.8 range. He's a hybrid tight end capable of flexing out into the slot and he thrives at finding holes in the defenses that he can take advantage of. Dollar also sees action in-line as a traditional tight end.

At 6-foot-6, Dollar is a big target for any QB. He's strong at making contested catches. He's a long strider and he plays with some physicality. He isn't a burner by any means, but he's fast enough paired with great size and reliable hands. He's dangerous in space, which is an intriguing aspect of his game. He will need to continue to improve his blocking. He's capable. Dollar's size gives him a height advantage in red-zone and jump-ball situations.

Anxious to see how Dollar plays his junior season, his production and any advancements as a blocker or athleticism. He has major upside and should give Oregon a pass-catching threat at the TE position.

Ducks/Bucks Game

They would not have been able to play at Autzen with the air quality....I guess that they could have played in Columbus. In fact, with the fires, this season would have been problematic no matter how you slice it. I guess that football could still practice in an air controlled Mo Center, but until the smoke clears, Autzen would not be happening.

OT: A.J.'s perfect September...

One of the things I'm trying to do during the pandemic and all the at-home time it has provided is get into better shape. The other things are home improvements and working through Rosetta Stone - Spanish levels 1 to 5.

So this month I decided to do what I was jokingly calling it to my wife, "A.J.'s perfect September". To achieve this, all month long, I have to do daily doubles Monday through Saturday, with 30 minutes of strength training and 45 minutes of cardio, plus at least 30 minutes of Spanish lessons and home improvement work each day.

Today is the start of Week 3 after yesterday off. I am of an age now where recovery times are becoming lengthier. My motivation meter is at about 1.2 on the ten scale.

But off I go to work out, then off to sand the new drywall in my wife's office.

Have to be at the desk in time for Jabril McNeill...

  • Locked
Will lack of season hurt recruiting?

I was asked this question the other day and it is a good one. I was wondering what other people think, and will start with a few thoughts of my own.

  • Oregon is in a unique position to handle it simply because their 2021 class is largely done
  • Their strong work during the lock downs has made this possible
  • The Oregon brand is the strongest in the West and since everybody out here is not playing that will not change
  • It could potentially be a drag on the 2022 class because teams that are playing do have an advantage
  • The Oregon staff will have to figure out how to get the prospects attention even without visits and games
So overall I think it will not affect 2021 class but could possible be a drag on 2022. Until things change which they will.

Brianne Theisen Eaton

This was tweeted recently on the Oregon T&F Twitter site. In my objective opinion,
Brianne has to be considered the most accomplished women’s athlete in UO track history. Not taking anything away from Raevyn, but Brianne should be on the Tower. I guess that they must have figured that one Eaton on the Tower was enough. Ironically, she never won the Bowerman, I spite of completely dominating college track. She is kind of the Edward Cheserek of the women, in that she had an unequalled college career for which she never got the full recognition.

Duke v Norte Dame

This is painful to watch. There is something kind of nonsensical in seeing coaches wearing masks and standing over six feet away from the sideline interviewer while being interviewed, social distancing among fans in face masks in a stadium at fractional capacity, and then unmasked athletes bunched together on the field and the sidelines. Either it is medically dangerous to violate social distancing or it is not. If it is, then these athletes should not be playing football. If it is not medically dangerous then we should be opening up campuses.

I am proud to be a legacy of Duke University. I hope that they beat Norte Dame, but I am not sure how I feel about the fact that they are playing football. I’m not a epidemiologist, but the double standard between football players and other students is disconcerting. I know that the scholarship athletes are held to higher standards, and more stringent demands than the general student body, but when it comes to a pandemic those standards and demands should be consistent. That said, Go Devils! Beat the Irish!

3.154 million acres burned in CA

I just heard Gov. Newsom on tv announce this horrific statistic.... and the numbers are growing!

On a personal note, the Santa Cruz Mountain Fire is largely contained, thanks to the fire workers and the fog. We were fortunate to get fire fighters from around the state and from other states. We got our fire early. Now the fires are too wide spread to get that kind of concentrated help. Even though the fire in our county is receding , the air quality is horrible due to the Dolan fire to our south. That fire is doing horrendous damage. God help Oregon and California.

The arms race in track and field

Not that UCLA or USC will close the gap with the new Hayward Field, but both schools have made significant strides to make their facilities more enticing. I welcome it. It’s good for the sport and good for the conference.
