Oline shuffling in game

I agree with everyone that the OLine struggled and that is a big issue. Can someone tell me who all was playing at the start of the game and at the end. It looked like Jamarillo came in at LT and was playing late. And Jackson Powers came in at Center because of the Forsyth injury. I am wondering if the improvement we saw late had anything to do with personnel changes or if it was entirely scheme adjustments? Any thoughts or any information anyone can give on who was playing at the end of the game on the OL would be appreciated.

Sewell named to Butkus list

CHICAGO — After being named the Pac-12 defensive freshman of the year in 2020, Oregon linebacker Noah Sewell has landed on the 2021 preseason watch list for the Butkus Award.

Sewell was announced on Monday as one of 51 collegiate players selected to the watch list for the award, which has honored the nation’s best linebacker since 1985. It is named after Dick Butkus, arguably the greatest defensive player in football history.

Sewell was terrific for the Ducks as a true freshman, finishing as one of only two FBS true freshmen and the only in the Power 5 to lead his team in tackles (45). He was the first Oregon true freshman to lead the team in tackles since Troy Dye in 2016, and he led all Pac-12 freshmen in tackles, tackles for loss (6.5) and sacks (2.0).

A native of Malaeimi, American Samoa, Sewell finished 2020 as the sixth-highest graded linebacker in the Pac-12 by Pro Football Focus (70.5). In his first career matchup against Oregon State, Sewell made 10 tackles and added two TFLs to become just the second UO freshmen since 2000 with double-digit tackles and multiple tackles for loss in the same game.

Duck notes: 9-6-21 Pre-Ohio State

From Coach Cristobal:
  • Dru Mathis will be out for Ohio State
  • Jamal Hill and DJ James will be available against Ohio State
  • Ducks will fly out on Thursday instead of Friday to get ready for the early morning kickoff
  • Kayvon Thibodeaux is day-to-day this week but "improving"
  • Troy Franklin was limited against FSU because of an injury from during the week before, will be full go against Ohio State
  • Tons of praise for tOSU QB CJ Stroud "Poise, accuracy, cann improvise, can make plays with his arm with his feet. He can make every throw. He’s really smart."
  • Brown's RPO reads were pretty good against Fresno State "Probably two of each he'd like to have back"
From Coach Moorhead:

  • Anthony Brown had a "solid" game against FSU. Agreed with Coach Cristobal that he missed a few reads
  • Said Ohio State "probably top three challenging places" he has coached. Intelligent fan base that gets loud.
From Coach DeRuyter:

  • Justin Flowe "showed on Saturday who he is" playing with passion and energy
  • Said Haenor's ability to get outside the pocket and throw caused problems on Saturday. Said it is fixable and it has to be this Saturday.
  • Hill and James had to shake some rust off but have been practicing well and "will be competing for jobs."

Anthony Brown and the O line are not good enough

I know it is the first game , but AB has played 5 years of football and always been below 60% completion rate. He made some great throws yesterday , but he kills drives by missing on easy throws. He missed badly on two throws in the flat, and a couple of others where he was behind the receiver on short crossing routes. If this can be fixed I'm all for it, but my gut feeling is that although he is a legitimate D1 starting QB , he is a fair to middling one. If there are a 120 D1 programs I think he might be around the 60th best in the country. Maybe lower. That's not good enough to beat top teams.

The offensive line looked mediocre as well. I trust Mario to recruit the right players and he knows a helluva lot more than me, but I wonder if he puts more emphasis on size than athleticism and explosiveness. Obviously you want all 3 of those traits, but they played Fresno state defensive line to a draw I think and that is not going to work against Ohio State or even top Pac 12 teams

From what I saw yesterday, UCLA is the best team in the League. Montana might be 2nd( HAHAHAHAHA....Husky joke right there) After watching Ohio state play I was confident Ducks could play with them. Now, not confident in that happening at all. Many team show great improvement between the 1st and 2 nd game. Ducks also were probably looking ahead a little, but there is HUGE gap between what I saw yesterday and where they will need to be next Saturday. Would love to be proved wrong , but not feeling it. If Brown plays better, great. If he plays poorly and its a blowout, a very good chance they will go to Thompson if he is close to ready

After review....

The OL needs to improve boatloads if we are to have a better than decent season. Brown made plenty of poor throws but man he was pressured heavily nearly every pass. Not a whole lot of outstanding run blocking either! To their credit that last quarter was much better!!
Without KT or a blitz our four man pass rush was poor! Way too soft of coverage imo on pass plays. I expect the defense to improve a lot this week with film review. One guy needing a shout out......Flowe with 14 tackles!!!
Special teams were good and Sneed is really good!
Lots of things to add but I am hoping some vanilla, mixed with first game and FSU is a solid team all contributated to what we saw!
AND.....at least we aren’t Dawgs....😂😂!
Next week at Columbus we can’t play like that!!!
Go Ducks!!!!!

Greetings in a return to civlization

Good afternoon all,

Just got into decent range about an hour ago. Great wedding. Emotional day for sure, but so happy for my son and his new wife!

I have a 3-2-1 up for tomorrow morning already, so will save my thoughts until tomorrow morning.

The wedding was in a place called Harlowtown in Montana at the 'Barnsion' which is a really incredible venue on a working cattle ranch. So, when the DJ announced the Montana/Washington score, everyone cheered - because half of them are from Montana, and the other half from Oregon.

Just a couple of the pics here

Let's focus on the positive for a minute

The last 6 minutes the Duck's shifted into another gear. This should help them realize what is needed in the focus and effort department

Defensive line looked good. I think they played conservative early and buckled down when necessary

KT is the real deal. He will be a force this year

When things got real, Verdell showed he can be counted on

Kicking game is solid and could be an additional 10 points in our favor a game "Punting and Field Goals"

Difficult first game will have these guys super focused for next week

Defensive backs played soft early and when it counted they stepped up

The defense is very aware and good at ripping the ball away and this could play big this year as they get better

Lot's of good film to watch to improve

Brown can run and should get much better at identifying his opportunities
