We have a much better confr records. Funny, they got more votes to be in the top 25 than Oregon, but I'd think UO's stock is much higher. Just look at the betting lines and predicter. Sure wish they played Zona at home instead of away, or better yet, twice.Anyway, they cant afford to loose this one.

2023 RB Johnny Thompson Jr. visit recap

I caught up with USC commit Johnny Thompson Jr. about his weekend visit to Oregon. He has a prior relationship with Carlos Locklyn that paved the way for him to get out to Eugene last Saturday. He really was blown away by Dan Lanning and raved about what it was like to spend time with the Ducks new head coach and meet some of the other members of the staff while on campus. It definitely gave him a lot to think about moving forward. He's still committed to USC but admitted his relationship with that program has changed since the new staff came aboard. He is planning to see some other schools soon, but he really seems to be excited about the Ducks.

Here's one quote pulled from the article that you can read in its entirety at the link at the top of the post.

“You know going into that talk I was actually kind of a little nervous, because I’m thinking coach Lanning’s like this uptight guy who is wanting to see my intentions once I come up there. But actually, coach Lanning his questions had nothing to do with football. It was more related to, ‘When you come up here, what do you want to major in?’ It was more questions like, ‘What do you want to do that is going to make you successful as a grown man?’”

Got to wonder ...

Since it is after the early signing period a lot of targets have been erased from the board. The coaching change has removed a few more. But I have to wonder if the new staff opens up more interest in Oregon football. We have to suspect the new staff is as good or better than the very successful one which just departed. I'd think recruit targets were aware of the somewhat plodding offense which never shined under MC, made aware of the limited snaps available to some back-ups in the QB and RB rooms. Aside from the commitment by Cristobal to offensive linemen, how much excitement did he offer? Lanning promises a return to the type of offense which made Oregon a dream school. I'm not sure he can fully deliver since part of the success then was facilitated by a new concept of tempo, no huddle, offense which defenses were not prepared for. They are now. Still, the promises is there and Lanning will attract a lot of defensive talent in addition to what is already on hand, thanks to his recent success at George on that side of the ball.

I've got to think Oregon is a better draw for recruits that it was for the last staff. I'm thinking it may begin to show in the regular signing day, a few later commits, and the portal. Not sure how high his first class will be rated but I'm thinking it will be a bit better than most of us suspected, and may make the top 15. Not sure where it will rank in the conference either. With so many coaching changes Oregon is not alone in having players who rethink their choices or reevaluate their opportunities. Oregon has a national recruiting footprint reputation. I doubt the new hires will shrink it and may increase it.

Any of you have ideas on these things? Love to star a conversation before signing day gets here.

2023 OL recruit from Florida reacts to Oregon offer

Oregon jumped in early as one of the first two Power Five offers for Lakeland, Florida offensive lineman Gernorris Wilson yesterday. He was really surprised by the offer, but he's already trying to put together a visit to get out to Eugene. He's still learning about the new staff as most of his recruiting is being handled by his coaches, but he definitely sounds excited about the opportunity.

Hit the link up top to read more from my interview with him earlier today.
