Duck Track. Men Now Move Into Contention

There are several criterium for form charts. Chile Duck is the master of the form charts. If you use the criteria of Personal Bests, then the Duck men are sitting in forth place for the Indoor Championships. Form Charts are not track meets. Track meets are actually not easily predictable, but our men are coming on like a locomotive.

Video interview with four-star CB commit Cole Martin

Here's a video interview I did with Cole Martin, talking about the opportunity to play for his dad and how that factored into his recruiting considerations.

Combine Notes

That I'm sure interests only me...lol.

1. Georgia DT weighed in at 341 and ran a 4.78 40...WOW! Also, a 10'3" Broad Jump. For comparison, our very own Verdel jumped 9"10".

2. Another Georgia DT ran a 4.77 at 304 lbs.

3. VT DE ran a 4.36 at 6'5" 246 LBS.

4. Overall, 17 guys ran UNDER 4.4.

5. Thibs Bench Press of 27 reps tied for 6t overall...for all players regardless of position

6. Michigan's DE Hutchinson ran the 3 Cone Drill in 6.73 3rd best behind only to WRs. The dude beat ALL of the other players including WRs and RBs.

Same thing with the 20 Yard Shuttle....Hutchinson tied for 2nd among ALL players with a 4.15.

7. Nephi Sewell (sound familiar) from Utah is having a good combine so far, though the Linebackers have just started.

8. Mychel Wright ran a 4.57, second to last so far among CBs who have run. Hopefully, he'll do much better at his Pro Day.

D Line Coaching

Posted to Oregon Live:

From Abe Lucas, WSU DE about Thibs:

"A really raw player. A lot of potential, a lot of upside, he uses his length well. He looks like an NFL D-end now. Very quick off the ball, carries his weight well.”

So, my question is this: why is he talking about Thib's "potential" in the Pros? (and it's not just Lucas saying this.)

Thibs was here for 3 years and he supposedly had one of the best D-Line coaches in the country teaching him.

So why did he not reach his "full potential" while he was here?

At the very least, why is he still "raw?"

You read this often about players from all positions. The Pros think that they can school up a player that maybe didn't have the best coaching in college.

But what about Big Joe? Did he fail to get Thibs past the "raw" stage? I thought that Joe was all of that and more.

I figure the Pros have the best coaches, but when you get guys like Tosh going back and forth from college to the NFL, it would seem like that would even out the quality a little.

So, what gives?

Pac 12 Invitational Review Track Video

This video reveals the unique diversity of
of Oregon’s track team. They represent humanity that ranges from small slender women long distance runners to hulking men throwers. These athletes come from a variety of countries in multiple continents. Although they are as diverse as a college sports team can be, they are a close and unified team. The fun coed social aspect of this group is reflected throughout this video both at competition and during play. All of these Ducks have one thing in common and that is that they are exceptionally gifted athletes. I hope that you enjoy this inside look at our track and field program.

Duck baseball wins again, win streak up to 6

After the rough 0-3 start to the year, ducks now have won six straight after taking game one vs. UCSB. The positive takeaway from this one was the solid pitching as UCSB only scored on two solo homers and the ducks outhit them 10-3. Doubleheader tomorrow starting at 2:05 local time.

DUCKS AT NFL COMBINE

Yes...I am a combine junkie. There. I said it.

Yesterday was Wide Receiver Day.

A record tying 8 players ran the 40 in under 4.4...including Ohio State's two starting receivers...I mean two wideouts starting on the same team and under 4.4?!

Our Hometown Heroes--JJ III and Devon Williams--did not fare as well.

JJ III:

40: 4.6 #27 of 32
Vertical: 32" #29 of 32
Broad Jump: 10'1" 5-way tie for 25th of 32
3 Cone Drill: 7.21 #8 of 13...so far
Short Shuttle: 4.54 #12 of 13

DW:

40: 4.65 #31 of 32. To be fair DW did not run twice. Many wonder if he tweaked a hammy or something.
Vertical: 33" 5-way tie for 24th of 32.
Broad Jump: 11' 1" #3 of 32.
3 Cone Drill: NA

Duck Women’s 4x4 Going to the Dance

We already knew that the DMR was going, but now the 4x4 is in by the skin of their teeth. I really like this relay team. They are VERY young. Take a look at the four 4X4 runners in the photo below. All four are freshmen. Three are 400 specialist, but the other one ( Grebo) currently the fastest. Grebo is outstanding at the 400 hurdles. Will they score points at Nationals?… Probably not, but if this group stays together at Oregon, they will go one to accomplish great things. The 4x4 team is the photo on the top.
