Oregon is a clear standout for 2024 four-star OT Brandon Baker

One of my assistants Jeff McCulloch caught up with four-star 2024 OT Brandon Baker (Mater Dei HS/Santa Ana, Calif.), and he perked up when asked about Oregon. The Ducks look like the early favorite here:

Oregon has decided to move into Dan Lanning's old territory today with an offer to early 2025 Rivals100 running back recruit Ousmane Kromah from Lee County in Leesburg, Georgia. The 6-foot-1 back already has a thoroughly impressive offer list including schools such as Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Michigan State among many others.

QUAAAAAACK: Ducks land 6-star (?) kicker from California

Rivals doesn't tend to rank kickers but Chris Sailer does and his top-rated kicker in the 2023 class has committed to Oregon this afternoon. Grant Meadors gave the Ducks his pledge today and the 5-foot-11 prospect is rated as a six-star recruit by Sailer's service, which ranks specialists. The 5-foot-11 recruit carries a 4.5 GPA and has been receiving Power Five interest up to this point in the process. He plays at Liberty High School in Bakersfield, California and holds an offer from Army plus a preferred walk-on opportunity from Oregon State.

Here is a portion of Sailer's breakdown of Oregon's newest 2023 commit: "Grant is a phenomenal high school kicking prospect. He is a tremendous athlete with one of the strongest legs in America. Grant does a excellent job on field goal. He hits a big time college level ball off the ground. Grant gets the ball up well and easily has 55+ yard range. His kickoffs are strong. Grant drives the ball deep into to the end zone with 4.0+ hang time. Also a more than capable punter. Grant is a big time competitor who thrives under pressure."

T.J. Bass is Pac-12 OL of the Week again

He got my vote this week and many others, it appears.

PRESS RELEASE:

Oregon left tackle T.J. Bass has been named the Pac-12 offensive lineman of the week for the second week in a row, the conference office announced on Monday.

This is the fourth time in his career Bass has earned the honor, matching former Duck Penei Sewell for the most in the award’s history (since 2019). Bass also joins Sewell as the only players to receive the award in consecutive weeks.

Playing 52 snaps at left tackle, Bass helped the Ducks rush for 306 yards and seven touchdowns in Oregon’s win at Arizona, the program’s most rushing touchdowns since 2017 and most vs. a FBS opponent since 2012.

The Ducks did not allow a sack for the fifth time in six games this season, with Bass not allowing a pressure, hurry, QB hit or sack in 24 pass-blocking opportunities, according to Pro Football Focus. PFF gave Bass an 82.4 overall grade and a terrific 84.3 run-blocking grade, both tops among Oregon offensive linemen.

Bass and the Oregon offensive line also did not allow a tackle for loss against the Wildcats, the first time Oregon has done that since 2010.

No. 12 Oregon (5-1, 3-0 Pac-12) will return to action following its bye week on Oct. 22 vs. No. 11 UCLA (6-0, 3-0 Pac-12) at Autzen Stadium (12:30 P.M. PT, FOX or FS1).

We're only six games in but.....

Kudos to Scott for an excellent summary of what we have seen so far from this coaching staff. This captures exactly what I was trying to convey to my very reasonable and fair minded OS and UW friends. We were having a discussion and they were asking me my thoughts on the staff and in a rambling way I tried to give an assessment but this really sums it up well:

The game planning and adjustments we are seeing is championship caliber

I think we are seeing just why Dan Lanning was so highly thought of in Georgia – he not only has a good feel for how to develop a program, but he really knows how to game plan and make adjustments. Putting the opener aside, every single game has been like a coaching clinic from Lanning. Yes, he is very friendly and almost Chip Kelly level sardonic in interviews. Yes, he seems pretty playful during pre-game warmups.; but look at his eyes in the game and you will see a different person.

His adjustments at the half against Washington State showed me something – but I think it was his entire defensive game plan for Arizona that was the difference maker for me personally. His game plan was brilliant and showed that this team is on an ascendant path to greatness that some fans thought might be ready to pass Oregon by.
