SO SICK OF SEC/ESPN BIAS BS....

Not that I expect anything different but it sure gets really really old! And IMO, is ruining college football. How the hell can one justify moving Auburn up after a 24-7 late run win at home against Tulane, yes that’s right, football powerhouse TULANE....while the DUCKS & THE Ohio State have lopsided pummeling wins against decent opponents and “drop” in the polls. Scheduling, rankings, ESPN big money just has the SEC bias crap getting harder and harder to swallow every year. Latest has Alabama & Georgia in the playoffs...just mind numbing! And this is the COACHES poll....who & what are they watching?

LMAO...now the AP poll is out and 3 of the top four are SEC! Can U imagine if TAM would have punked Clemson....and 50%, yes 1/2 of the top 10 in college football are SEC!!!

Yesterday's P12 games...

The results from yesterday are good for Oregon. With UW and Stanford at 0-1, the path to the Rose Bowl is that much cleaner. It gives them a little cushion for their three road games against UW, USC and the Cardinal.

To make it to the Rose Bowl they might have to beat USC (at least the second time) which would be very interesting indeed.

For Cristobal and Co. nothing changes at all. They need to focus on each week and win that game.

Daewood Davis

Now here's a kid I like!

Coach from Florida recruits him....asks him to move across the country to play for him and then heads to FSU, leaving the kid here.

So, Daewood enters the transfer protocol because his coach screwed him over.

Wait...what? He did not try to leave?

WOW

Can't get PT at WR so they move him to defense...then he enters the Transfer Protocol because, you know, he's not starting and he wants to play WR.

What's that you say...the kid stays put twice in a row. Is he insane? Doesn't he know that it is birthright to get whatever he wants when he wants it?

Instead, he keeps his mouth shut and works hard and guess what....he might be starting at WR this week!!

Nicely played Mr. Davis. Good work.

(and someday I will quite ranting about the transfers...but not yet!);)

Mario and his DNA

This is not a bash-the-coaches post.

Mario Cristobal has a definite design, blueprint and vision for what he wants Oregon football to be.

In many ways that vision is absolutely working. I've never seen a more driven and committed guy in the Oregon coaching office. His message to both players and the Oregon community is absolutely authentic and consistent.

He has said he wants the Ducks to be a physical team that imposes its will and wins the line of scrimmage.

On 4th and 1 from the Auburn 40 in the 4th, there wasn't any doubt about the play he was going to run. He was going to run the football behind Penei Sewell and Shane Lemieux.

The coach is getting all kinds of second-guessing because this play failed. Yet the philosophy behind the call is precisely why CMC was hired.

The game showed that philosophy has made tremendous progress. The Ducks WERE equal to Auburn physically. They should have won this game.

My question is, does Coach need to make adjustments in his strategy based on where the Ducks actually are as a program? Does he need to make room for deception, trickery, going completely against his tendency?

It's clear what he wants them to be, but does this team, right now, need to modify that approach to get results?

It was terribly bad luck not to have Herbert available for this crucial play. The Ducks were in chaos, blew two time outs, giving Auburn an extra 25-30 seconds at the end of the game.

With Herbert in they have a lot more options, and they would have been a lot more comfortable about running, say, a quarterback sneak under center, a bootleg with a run-pass option, or a surprise play-action pass.

Maybe a flea-flicker goes for a 40-yard touchdown. Maybe it gets stuffed.

But what's certain right now is that Coach will only make one choice in this situation. How much can he/will he/should he grow and learn and be more flexible as a coach, especially in game-on-the-line situations?

Brett Bielema would have called what the Ducks ran.
Steve Spurrier would have called the flea-flicker
David Shaw would have called the quarterback sneak.
Mike Bellotti, maybe the bootleg, flat pass to the tight end.
Chip Kelly?

Mario, I feel, is going to call Pistol Formation, off tackle left 99% of the time. He's an offensive lineman with three national championship rings.

How many arrows does he need in his quiver in situations like this?

Keys to the game: Nevada

Keys to the game change a bit when you're favored by 24.

1. All gas, no brakes

The Ducks need to jump start their offense, and they need to find out where their weapons are offensively. Move the ball. Throw it to all three levels. Keep pushing.

2. Play sound and fundamental defensive football, and play a lot of people. Find out what those freshmen can do.

3. Exploit the Nevada secondary

The Wolfpack gave up 423 passing yards and four touchdowns to Purdue quarterback Elijah Sindelar, but Sindelar helped them by throwing two picks.

4. Take care of the football.

This is always and obvious, but bears mentioning because the Boilermakers suffered 5 turnovers that led to their upset loss, 34-31 on a last-second 56-yard field goal.

5. Stay healthy, stay hungry and stay off the targeting suspension list.

6. Shake off the Auburn loss from the opening whistle. Give the Autzen crowd something to cheer about and cure the hangover. Use this game to discover your identity and build some confidence.

7. The old football adage is that a team improve the most between week one and week two. Very interested to see how the Ducks respond and what kind of effort they bring to this.
