There are rumors circulating that USC is trying to lure Williams away from Oregon. These rumors have been persistent from the moment Williams arrived at Oregon. I don't particularly like perpetuating rumors, but these have already made it to Twitter and free message boards so I will tell you what I have heard.
This comes from multiple people inside the USC family so there are some legs to this, but also keep in mind that a rumor started by USC could be for two reasons 1) it creates doubt in future recruits (i.e., Anthony Beavers) and 2) They are doing it to sow seeds of doubt with the Oregon head coach.
Why?
From the moment Williams arrived, many people in Southern California were very sure that he would only be in Eugene for a year, two tops. If there are rumors of a 'done deal' certain folks feel it could turn a HC sour if the two sides have not already talked about offers (i.e., Cristobal does not like being blindsided by coaches who up and leave without talking to him and seeing whether Oregon can retain him).
I doubt sincerely that this kind of psychology will work on Cristobal; Helton is playing CandyLand while Cristobal plays Three-dimensional chess.
Would Williams consider the move? Depends on the offer. I believe he and his wife just had a baby and there could be a desire to be closer to family. But I think that the Trojans would have to offer insane money (especially given the Cost of Living down there) and a title bump. Even then, you can be sure Cristobal already knows about the rumors and is in contact with Williams. I do not expect Oregon to give up without a fight here.
But it is also not yet a 'done deal' as was reported by an independent site. Will he be at Oregon forever? Unlikely. Will it be now? I guess we will just have to wait and see.
