This Week in Track ... What’s it all mean?

It means that this team is thriving. They continue to improve. Oregon is getting a lot of qualifiers for the NCAA Championships.

Right now there are lots of athletes just outside the top 8 that are a threat to score if they can improve their marks. There are also a lot of athletes inside the top eight that are likely to score at Nationals.

I do not know about the status of sprinters Xavier Narne or Jasmin Reed. Hopefully neither are seriously injured.

The horizontal jumpers are coming on. Let’s see what developes.

The middle distance and distance runners are performing at a high level. This is the strongest area for the men at this point in this season.

There are a ton of positives. I will mention just one subtle positive in freshman 800m runner Luis Peralta. He is only a freshman and he is now ranked 10th in the country. He was a huge recruit based upon his high school junior year. His prestige faded in his senior season. I suspect that he had some injuries. Let’s see if he can step it up at Nationals and finish somewhere in scoring range. I think that today might put everyone on notice that Luis is about to emerge as a star.

The Husky Classic

for those who don’t know: Oregon’s track team split into two groups this week. One group went to Albuquerque to compete at the Don Kirby. The other group is in Seattle at the Husky Classic. Our top distance runners... along with others .... are in Seattle.

At this point, it looks like the distance runners are poised to get Oregon into the chase for the NCAA Championship... but don't hold me to that.

Avenatti guilty on all Nike shakedown charges.

Unlucky for him he doesn't have immunity, lol. Actually, this is great news for Nike and even UO, who def. said was involved in a Bol Bol mega bucks pay off. Fishing expedition comes to mind.. Not only did Nike/UO survive the Adidas scandals, they come out looking really good after fighting this one. Maybe he'll get Micheal Cohen as a cell mate, lol.
