What Steve Richey of Pac12 Network Wrote

“ Golf has Augusta National and Pebble Beach. Baseball has Fenway and Wrigley.
Basketball has Camden Indoor and Madison Square Garden. Football has The Rose Bowl and Lambeau Field. Track now has again Hayward Field......”

What a special venue to distinguish the University! No wonder Uncle Phil wanted the tower! It is a landmark for an internationally iconic sports facility. Hayward Field alone makes the UO famous.

In the US, Hayward Field stands alone in track fame. That’s in a sport where meets are held in every corner of the globe. Look at the flags outside the stadium. They represent all of the countries from which competitors at Hayward have come. Feel proud Ducks!

Kayvon Thibodeaux's chance for Heisman votes

Rivals national writer Mike Farrell weighs in today regarding KT's viability as a Heisman vote getter at Edge Rusher.

Defensive players, he points out, rarely get more than "sympathy votes."

The award has been dominated by dual threat quarterbacks since Tim Tebow, though Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith hoisted the Bronze Berwanger in 2020.

Farrell calls Thibodeaux's Heisman chances pure fiction, stating that the Ducks aren't likely to do well enough to get him the requisite attention.

He may be right. Thibodeaux's best chance to get on the leaderboard is for Oregon to pull out the upset in Columbus, with Kayvon having a dominating game against the Buckeye's highly-rated offensive tackles.

One of the big things Thibodeaux has in his favor is that he's not only a talented player, he's articulate and an engaging personality.

Only if he has stellar numbers and the Ducks are 12-2 or better does he have any kind of chance at what would be an historical achievement.

How far can the Ducks go with a game manager at quarterback?

The worst case scenario for Oregon is that Thibodeaux gets nicked up early in the season and shuts it down for the NFL Draft.

BB: Note from Coach Waz

Good afternoon to all and wishing you all well from beautiful Eugene this time of year. Believe it or not, the Oregon baseball team is headed down the home stretch of our 2021 regular season. This includes 6 conference games, 3 this upcoming weekend at PK Park vs #16 Stanford and 3 more on the road at Cal. Our season has gone well to date with our overall record standing at 34-11. We are currently tied for 1st place in the Pac-12 Conference and are ranked 6th nationally in both the NCAA Coaches poll and the D1 Baseball poll. This past week, PK Park was included in the final 20 potential playoff host sites, and 16 of these will be selected by the NCAA as hosting sites for both Regional and Super Regional rounds of postseason baseball. Following last night’s 10-3 victory over #15 Gonzaga, our team understands the importance of the upcoming two weeks regarding a potential league championship as well as postseason implications.

Traditionally as a team does well, it is because of the individual performances within the team. This is definitely the case with this group. As of this week, of the 24 available Pac-12 Conference weekly awards presented this season, Duck baseball players have earned 25% of them…this is twice as many as the 2nd best team. Last night, senior Gabe Matthews broke the career RBI record, and recently broke career records for hits, doubles and multi-hit games…additionally he needs only 3 at-bats for the career at-bat record. Other records broken this year…Tanner Smith for single-season doubles and Kolby Somers is now 6th in single-season saves. Matthews, Zavala, Yovan, Smith, and Kasevich have all moved into at least one single-season top 10 list in program history. Keep it going men!!

Today, the NCAA announced that local health authorities will determine attendance capacity at upcoming postseason/NCAA Championship events, with up to 100% of stadium capacity possible. We are hopeful that increased capacity at PK Park will be a reality during the NCAA Regionals, and we continue our ongoing dialogue with local public health officials as the postseason approaches. And whether we have a full stadium or some limits on capacity remain in place, GET TO PK PARK TO WATCH THIS TEAM!!

Thanks again for your support! As we all know, IT’S FUN TO BE A DUCK!!

GO DUCKS!!

How good will Oregon's passing attack be with Anthony Brown at quarterback? Does he keep the job?

Two-time Super Bowl winner Atwan Randle-El: the most important thing a football coach has to do to win championships

"First of all, you've got to gain the trust of the players. That's always a big deal," Randle El said during a video conference with members of the media Wednesday. "At the end of the day, that's what it comes down to. Those guys will run through a brick wall for you, if they feel like they trust you. If you're on the same page as them, have that open-door policy and you're honest with them, that's what players want."

I think this applies to quarterbacks too. In order to lead the team and get the most out of the offense, Anthony Brown has to win their complete confidence, show he can perform in the clutch.

Oregon analyst Dreiling lands FCS defensive coordinator slot

A former linebacker for the Pittsburgh State Gorillas, Nate Dreiling is leaving the Oregon staff to become defensive coordinator for the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks.

One of the measures of a head coach is how he develops people and how many of his staff go on to bigger opportunities. Already in his fourth season Mario Cristobal has seen Marcus Arroyo and Andy Avalos move on to become head coaches, analysts land full-time coaching gigs.
