Monday practice notes

Practice was closed but coach gave us his notes.

Oregon held practice Monday morning on the practice field in shells following their Saturday scrimmage. Mario Cristobal had these notes afterwards.

Overall

Physical practice today. I was really pleased with the way the guys came out after a scrimmage like we did with 150, 60 plays, and attack today with physicality.

Situational football today.

Emphasis on competition. Making sure that competition is not just a tagline. That you feel good about when it is going your way. That competition is something that is real and that you keep bringing it every day. I think that has stuck.

Guest speaker program

We have had some good guest speakers, some good messaging and it seems like it has had an impactful, positive affect on us.

Another look at the QB’s after Saturday

If you look at the entire body of work, you look at a guy like Butterfield has taken a massive step. On Saturday, Ty Thompson played the best of all the quarterbacks. Robby got back in for a couple series, he was down for a couple of days with some minor stuff.

But definitely on Saturday Ty played the best of all the quarterbacks.

Anthony has had a great camp. We pulled him a little because we felt his arm was overused, so we have to rest him, so we don’t cause any issues.

Is Ty getting more reps with the ones based on his performance?

All those guys are getting enough reps. We calculate them all. We don’t make that information public material but we feel like we’re repping it fairly, that we’re repping the guys with the plays that fit their skill set.

What did you pick up on scrimmage film that you didn’t notice live?

I think that tight end crew really stood out and not just in the passing game, the run game as well.

I got to go first with the defensive line. I thought those guys created a lot of issues with the offense early on, both in the run and the pass. They did a good job of getting their hands on guys, controlling their

I can’t say enough about the way Trikweze Bridges has been playing and the way Dontae Manning has been playing. A lot of guys Steve Stephens really popped as well.

Kingsley was a guy we mentioned on Saturday and after watching film, he is a guy that, him and Jackson was down on Saturday, but those two guys have shown a lot of promise. So has Marcus Harper. So has Jonathan Denis. Faaope has had some nice reps.

Seven did some good things.

TE injury update

Patrick Herbert did sustain a knee injury. It’s a good knee injury so he will be down for a while. DJ joined us again and the way that Cam is coming around we feel good about the depth there. We are going to miss Patrick because he was playing some great football.

“Return to play” specialists

We have a couple guys that work in our sports science department, that are return to play specialists. A lot of times when you have injuries you try to get guys back too early and they get injured again. So we acclimate them. It is almost like a pitch count. Those guys are going to be acclimated the right way. So by the time the season rolls around they can be legitimate contributors.

That is a place where our program has taken a monster step; the way return to play is handled.

Player notes

Darren Barkins – Very fast, coachable, getting some reps with the twos, should help this year.

Dru Mathis – Always full throttle, the way he carries himself is an important example to the team “really strong keeper of the culture”

2024 In-State CFB PSA's

Might not work if you don't sub to the O, but they are WR Joey Olsen, Lakeridge and TE Pugliano, North Medford. Made top 100 at 247.

Mario has to send a strong message

Big range of opinions on what should be done to the two DB's ranging from first half suspension against Fresno, to being kicked off the team. My punishment would not be either, but would definitely be closer to the latter. This will hurt the Ducks chances against Ohio state, but the long term message is more important. 100% selfish move by these two. Mario needs to make it clear that in this program, we do not put up with this kind of crap. This kind of idiocy. I was an idiot at 20, but not to this degree. Needs to be a half season suspension and other behavior and punishment demands that need to be met to be allowed back on the team. If they are allowed back on the team, they are on a zero tolerance program, the rest of their career at Oregon. If they don't like it, go ahead and transfer. Buhhh byyye. As Barney Fife used to say, " you have to NIP IT............NIP it in the bud"!!
