Men's hoops tomorrow

The season opens at the matt tomorrow at 7:30 for you, 10:30 for me. Wish I was saying any time and Mac Court but those days are head down the river, long ago passed under the bridge along so much flotsam from my past. I'll have tp pick up the broadcast from KUGN, unless I figure out how to use B1G+ (which I'll try out) . Otherwise, I'll be following with the help of Alexa. Most of you can probably pick it up directly, not hoping you'll have no WIFI interruptions.

Not that polls mean all that much this early in the season but there are only four team ranked as of now, and none of them in the top 10. Purdue comes the closest at 14 followed by Indiana (17), UCLA (22) and Rutgers (25).

Didn't find a preseason conference ranking to see where Oregon fits into the rest behind those four but I'll look some more later.

What They are saying in Ann Arbor and Detroit today

First couple of papers I look at seem pretty fixated on the not a TD that became a TD as first articles.

of course they never got to 18 points and it wouldn't have mattered if the had.

There is other stuff if you care enough to subscribe to see them. I don't

Big Blue Mouse Score guessing contest results

Excellent week for many this week Guest picker joined 10Duck in missing the final score by only a point, but saving me the task of going back and figuring out how many points a perfect guess would be. Since no one has done so I'll further save the pain by announcing a perfetco worth a total of 200 points. Seems fair unless there are objections. All of those who nailed either a team score or the spread are the guys who scores this week are above 100, and there are a lot of you. By the way, all those scores above 90 are pretty rare for not getting a direct hit on something. Nice job, guys.

Thanks for sowing up. Hope to you all come back to take a shot at the Mary-had-a-little-land game score guessing game.

Huskies win the 'Mediocre Bowl'

In a battle of the beatens, the superiorly academical University of Washington outlasted the Conference Destroying USC Trojans by managing to kick themselves in the nuts just a little bit less.

A highly anticipated rushing of the field by UW students never truly materialized.

Trojan fans wondering why they left the chance to be #2 to Oregon every year in the P12 just to land at 15th in the Big 10.

Youtube ILL Sim -26

Don't you hate it when one of the "experts" climbs to the top of the hill? Somebody knock him off !!! by the way, congrats Brandon and thanks for knocking me down a notch. Another highlight is the Youtube sim predicting a 17-14 Illinois must have had an anchor in its purse as it did the Atlas thing and holds the rest of the guessing world on its squashed shoulders. I hope they take another shot at calling an Oregon loss if I can find it this week. Must have been a lot of movement this week with all the correct picks of the Oregon score though yet again nobody picked the Illinois score nor the spread. I find the almost amazing especially the spread.

Hoping all of the guys listed above are back again and we find a new face who will like join the fun.

I guess I'll take another wild shot with a 45-10 score for Oregon's second straight win in the big house.

Oregon Defense Stifles Michigan’s Offense in Historic Win

Dillon Gabriel, Bryce Boettcher, and Kobe Savage were the only three players made available following Oregon's 38-17 win, here is our recap of their comments:

ESPN "Portal U?"

After a couple of close calls the Ducks are starting to gel. IS this the best shot at a Natty we have had since playing in the finals vs tOSU? I'd say so.

Hoops!!!

I can almost hear leather hitting wood and whatever the nets are made of now.

The season for men starts next week with a Monday game vs UC riverside and then hosting Montana on Friday. For a change Dana starts with an almost heathy team but only one center in that shape so it will be interesting to see what kind of ball Oregon plays this season.

The women with 9 new players who have not yet experienced Gray's "coaching" open up also on Monday hosting Cal Baptist and follow with Nevada on Wednesday. Hoping this will be his last season as I'm not expecting much in his first stumble into the new conference.

Here is a link to the injury report followed by a nice little article about freshman running back Riggs.

Off the wall crap that wastes your time but fulfills my writing urge

Don't read this.

As a sports fan to the level that I seldom participated in physically (well I did play semi-pro fastpitch softball and ran on a cross country team that would have been the 1966 NJ state champs had 80%of the team not gone on drunken spree one Saturday evening/night/morning and gotten kicked off of the team) I pursued what I could and did well with officiating and writing. I go where other dare not go because they are too busy scoffing at it.

From that deep backwoods country I'm here to remind you that Oregon is not the only unbeaten team, no surprise there, but neither are the other seven (I think) D1 teams who have not yet tasted defeat. There are twenty other all-victorious squads. Sure, they are from "lesser" divisions but I am reminded of something that made me a good sports official . Every day of the week when football games (or any other sports contest from pee wee to professional) kick off, to every team with their fan bases, no matter how small or seeming insignificant, it the biggest event of the day or night, maybe the week. They give it their all the same as the players in every other game. They deserve but don't get the best officials or at least the best efforts from them they have. They bathe in the best reporting, even a box or line score on page three or four of the local sports page.

To report all of that is impossible for any sports writer, even as talented as I am. But ... I can a take few moments to list the top winners even if I don't have the time nor the will to dig more deeply into what should be said. I make a promise which I probably won't keep after the liquor wears off (OK .. so what if I don't drink anymore) to keep you updated on the list. This is a Ducks forum but, dammit, you should care about all of these folks you have been remiss in honoring with a minute or two of your time if you really love football.

Imagine, if you will, yourself bundling up to sit in perhaps glorified high school bleachers to watch your team. Imagine the thrill of another win, even if not many others care about it. Sitting and sharing with you are friends and families of the players, perhaps a reporter or two and maybe a pair of play by play radio announcers for the local or school station. There are some old people in town visiting who may be alums or just town folk supporting the local college or university. Its a big deal for somebody everywhere every contest. Memories are embedded every time. It's the joy of sports.
I love it.

OK, now you can go back to not reading.
