Can anybody remember...?

The incident involving a high school player who, in front of a school assembly, committed to the Oregon Ducks. Much celebration among those in attendance because this was a really big deal.
Turns out, though, that this kid never had an offer. It was wishful thinking that Oregon would offer him.
What was his name, and whatever happened to this dude? Asking for a friend...:)

Amazing Chargers Football Coverage

I live in Santa Cruz County which borders Santa Clara County. Santa Clara County is the home of the 49ers. The stadium is probably about 45 minutes from my home.

Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties are not in “Silicon Valley” or even the Bay Area. Therefore we have our own NBC, ABC, and CBS affiliates. I live over 340 miles from Los Angeles. It is a 5 and a half hour drive. In other words it is another world. We are roughly half between LA and Oregon. This is not a Los Angeles sports market … in fact LA teams are disliked by most Northern Californians.

Get this: Our local ABC and NBC affiliates both advertise their weekly live coverage of Chargers football. They brag about it on the sports news. They do not carry 49er football. Highlights of Justin Herbert are all over their promotional ads.

They have been doing this ever since Herbert arrived. I just can not believe it.
This is 49er country and still kind of Raider country for a certain type of “bad boy” fan. LOL

I have no problem with the Chargers. I have always liked them. So what the heck.
Go Chargers!

OT: Traveling this week

I am driving to Montana to spend some time with my son and daughter-in-law (for those that have tailgated with us over the years, this is the son that has come to games with me. In fact, he was the one who came to the Oregon-Oregon State game with me in 2017 just before I moved to South Carolina) this week.

I will spend Sunday-Tuesday driving slowly and going through Glacier National Park and get to Red Lodge Wednesday morning then spending a few days just hanging out with Braden and Jenson. It should be an incredibly peaceful week.

A couple of notes for how that affects you guys:

1. I will still have Inside Read, War Room, and Flock Talk articles next week.
2. I am not yet sure if I wil be able to spend more or less time on the boards.
3. Due to timing, I will not be at SNL personally, but will have some eyes and ears there to give me any nuggets.

Beach Volleyball Program under scrutiny

Haven’t seen anyone discussing this here. The Oregonian conducted an investigation into the Beach Volleyball team and the conditions athletes train, travel, & compete in. It’s not a good look for Oregon. Here’s a short piece on the subject by Bill Oram that isn’t behind a paywall. Any thoughts from the Oregon Community here?

OT: MIRACLE MILE

In the women's mile at the Diamond League Meet in Monaco, Faith Kipyegon of Kenya broke the women's mile record.

Not only did she break it, but she also shattered it. Her time of 4:07.64 crushed the old time of 4:12.33. Almost 5 seconds!

But wait, there's more:

Former Duck Nikki Hiltz set a new American record of 4:16.35. The old record was set by Mary Decker Slaney in 1985.

Bowerman Track Club runner Elise Cranny also broke Slaney's record with a 4:16.47

Former Duck Jessica Hull broke her own Australian record with a time of 4:15.58.

Ciara Mageean of Ireland set a new Irish record with a time of 4:14.58.

Laura Muir of Great Britain set a new English record with a time of 4:15.24.

Perhaps the best woman's mile race ever?!

I sure wish I could have seen it.

FOUND IT: BUT IT IS ON YOU TUBE AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO INSERT IT...

Oregon Gets Stanford Sprinter

Alexa Rossum. She is a solid addition. She has graduated from Stanford and will be attending Oregon as a graduate student with one year of eligibility left.

She could definitely help out on the relay pool. She is needed. Her PB in the 100 is 11.51. I would put her as a long shot for pro track but I think that the staff is delighted to have her on the team!

The Ducks will take the stage beginning at 1:35 with Dan Lanning up first before the session is closed out by QB Bo Nix and LB Jeffrey Bassa. There will also be a separate breakout session with all three shortly after the main stage time.
