Allay My Concerns

It seems like one of the fundamental errors was Larry Scott getting the conference into a long term media deal without a reasonable buyout clause. That problem was caused by a lack of vision. Who knows what changes time might bring? You can anticipate that time will bring change.

Do I understand correctly that our contract with the Big is for 99 years, and that our buy out is two years worth of revenue? If so, it seems to me that this is a deal that even Larry Scott might consider too risky.

I hope that I have the wrong understanding of our new contract.

Who's number 10?

I see the BIG# conference quickly coming to two 10 team divisions. They have, I think, 19 right now and need to add a tenth to one division or the other. I'm going to guess Stanford gets the call simply because of their occasion goodness, their media market size and westness. Of course when that happens, I wouldn't expect to see the BIG# traditional powers in regular season games very often. It wouldn't even be possible to play all of the division teams every season ... unless suddenly there are more games in the season. That would be tuff to make happen with the expanded play-off plan.

Jurrion Dickey

From Menlo Atherton HS

Earlier this week, I met a nice young man who was working for a delicatessen near my house. It turned out that he just finished his freshman year at Oregon. The conversation turned to Oregon football. This young man played cornerback for our local high school. When I told him that Oregon has two receivers from the town where I had gone to high school, he responded that he was well aware of both. He played against Franklin his freshman year, and against Jurrion Dickey his junior season. when Dickey was at West Valley Christian ( a private high school he attended before transferring to the public school in his district) . Lots of high school kids from the town where I live as well as the town where I am from, go to Oregon.
