WSJ: Cal & Stanford Prioritizing Big 10 Membership

I don’t know what will happen, but it would be good for Oregon.

If you are ever in the Northern CA town in which I live, and you want to make a lot of new friends, just wear an Oregon hat or sweatshirt. We are BY FAR the most enthusiastic college fan base in my community. We want the Ducks to continue to play and recruit down here!

West Linn 2025 TE Baron Naone

Oregon seems to be turning out some quality TE prospects in the last several years. Next up is this guy. 247 rates him very high at 11th, where Rivals doesn't rank him. Anyone know much about him? Seems like a no brainer if he's interested.

Central Michigan guard Jesse Zarzuela has announced his commitment to Oregon. The 6-foot-3 guard from Houston has been well traveled throughout his career with stops at UTEP, two different junior colleges, Coppin State and then CMU. He has one season of eligibility left and he will now use it to play for the Ducks after a recent visit to Eugene. Zarzuela averaged 16.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season making him another scoring threat for Dana Altman's team heading into the fall.

Plenty of programs have been in pursuit of the veteran transfer to varying degrees including Arizona, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and George Mason. He previously visited George Mason before visiting Oregon and Pittsburgh had been pushing for a visit from him as well.

Instead, he's wrapped up his recruitment and is now part of Oregon's plans for the upcoming season.

Preseason AP Top 25 released

The Ducks check in at No. 15 overall in the first AP Top 25 poll and are one of five teams within the Pac-12 to make the preseason list. USC (No. 6), Washington (No. 10), Utah (No. 14) and Oregon State (No. 18) are the others. Week 2 opponent Texas Tech also just missed out on the top 25 as the team with the most votes outside the list. Only the SEC (6) has more teams on the list than the Pac-12, which is tied with the Big Ten.

In a revised list factoring conference realignment, the Big Ten and SEC are tied with eight teams apiece in this year's preseason AP Top 25.

Reactions: Hands Down Duck

College football is barreling toward a super league, no matter what might be lost.

“I don’t believe it’s done. It’s never been done,” Alberts said in a recent interview with the Lincoln Journal-Star. “It’s more likely than not that there will be continued periods of angst. I believe that the next go-around — that’s my basic conclusion — will be far more disruptive than anything we’re currently engaged in. We need to prepare ourselves mentally for that.”

The cannibalization of the Pac-12 is the clearest sign yet that a single, pro-style super league is coming:

After Pac-12's implosion, College Football Playoff format set for another shakeup.

Now, after another realignment wave shook the college sports landscape, the meeting is expected to take a different tone. The CFP’s governance structure, revenue distribution model and, most notably, playoff format are all up for re-examination after last week’s realignment shift, several college leaders say.

DSA Inside Read: Thoughts on first 🦆scrimmage.

Oregon came close a year ago with Bucky Irving (1058) and Noah Whittington (779) leading the Ducks on the ground. The one things that prevented the Ducks from having two 1000 yard rushers a season ago was the effectiveness of Bo Nix (510 yards) on the ground.

Roster updated

The goducks.com roster pages have been reformatted, "modernized?" and updated with all the current and new players (excepting preferred walkons). This required a bit of extra work to keep the Chile Duck Oregon depth chart up-to-date in it's now familiar format (for some of you), but this has been done and all the new players are slotted into probable positions. It'll be updated as new players get added when fall camp starts. As of today, there are 106 players on the roster. As usual, let me know if you see any problems or issues with the information.
