Ducks took game one last night 11-3. Anthony Hall continues to carry the hot bat and the whole team was hitting last night. But the more beautiful part of the performance was they used only 2 pitchers (Christian Ciuffetelli and RJ Gordon) who pitched very well and kept one of the better offenses in the conference at bay.

The week started off rough when they had a two game mid-week series with UCSD and only got one hit in game one of that, getting no runs. It looked like things were going from bad to worse for the team momentum wise. The next game though Waz started to tinker with different pitching lineups out there, and the bats came alive as they beat UCSD 15-6 in the second game.

Last night, Waz started Ciuffetelli who has had some okay pitching performances with some short weekday starts but never throws more than 4 innings and have regular started RJ Gordon come in from the bullpen in relief. This worked beautifully, I don’t know if this just relieved the starting pressure on Gordon but he came in, partly through the 3rd inning with 2 runners on and one out (7-1 at the time) and went the rest of the game closing it out. I like that Coach Waz is trying some different options with the pitching and they are looking better the last few games. If they can get hot before regionals, sky’s the limit, we will see. Game two is tonight at 6 (local time).
