I will give a quick summary. Never, since the UCLA teams of the 1970s, have I seen such a complete track team. Oregon is still a huge distance program, but not to the exclusion of the sprints, jumps, hurdles, throws, multis, or the middle distances.

They are prepared to put on a show. I don’t know about NCAA team titles, but I do know that Oregon has some good freshmen and transfers that will make an immediate impact. The women have lots of new faces in the sprints.

They recruited Southern California and Arizona and signed quality women sprinters. All of which are good, but no superstars. So let’s see who emerges, but the depth on the women’s relay team is awesome.

With the latest transfer from Auburn, the men now have a much improved situation in the sprints. This new Nigerian addition is a big time Olympic quality sprinter. Oregon now has some depth for a relay team, but they will need a second superstar sprinter to stay with the top sprint programs in the 4x100.
Let’s hope to see Rodrick Pleasants and PJ amp it up to make this a blur relay team.

The women have the high school national champion in the 800 as a new Freshman… how do you top that? Answer, by the men bringing in a freshman who made the Kenyan Olympic team in the 800. Add to that several Star 800 returners and we are going to see Hayward shake.

As an ex competitive lifter, I have a soft spot in my heart for the throwers. Well we have a few that have me salivating. Jaida Ross is the top athlete on the track team, men and women. Jaida finished 4th in last summers Olympics in the shot, and she is also great in the discus. The men have two fabulous freshmen shot putters. Ben Smith was the top high school shot putter in the U.S. Then there is Kobe Lawrence from Jamaica! I have heard glowing reports about Kobe. He was one of the top three high school shot putters IN THE WORLD. Since then he has become bigger, and more explosive.

There is so much more talent than I could write about or any of you would want to read about. We are loaded with talent. There is no town like Track Town! I have my seats and hotel reservations for the Big 10 and NCAA Championships. I’m excited.
