Ducks Push Winning Streak to five
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men’s tennis team ran its winning streak to five with Sunday’s 6-1 win over Nebraska at the UO Student Tennis. With the victory, the Ducks improve to 8-2 through their first 10 matches of the dual season. Oregon is now 6-1 on its home courts this year.
How It Happened: The Ducks took the early 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point. The team of Jesper Klöv-Nilsson and Riki Oshima were the first duo off the court with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot. Oregon clinched the first point of the match with an identical 6-2 score line from Brandon Lam and Charles Roberts on court two.
Junior Emmanuel Coste raced through the opening set of his singles match and came away with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Albert Sprlak-Puk at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Freshman Luke Vandecasteele pushed the lead to 3-0 with a straight-set win (6-4, 6-2) at No. 5 singles. He closed out the victory winning the last five games of the match.
At the top of the lineup, sophomore Joshua Charlton improved to 18-5 this season with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Victor Moreno Lozano. He closed out match-clinching win with an ace. Charlton is the No. 29 player in the country and is now 8-1 in dual play.
With the match in hand, play continued on the remaining courts. The Ducks picked up their final two points with wins by senior Ty Gentry and junior Riki Oshima at No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively. Oshima is now 10-3 in singles play this season and becomes the fifth UO player to reach double figures in the win column.
