How many of you thought he was somewhat similar to Masoli in terms of his style? I'll stick with "somewhat" and not "very" because there are differences.
First, and this has nothing to do with style, is simple physical stature. He has similar height but seemed a littler leaner.
With regards to style I thought his passing was better than Masoli's but in the same style: Good on short and intermediate routes but challenged on deeper routes. A lot of his deep balls floated and made the WR wait. Hopefully he can adjust on that. The short passes for the most part were darts and on target. I was not impressed overall with his arm and felt his timing on anything more than a short timed route was off. You may call me critical but on the dropped TD by Marshall he was a second or two late and a most of the other deep passes were similar in that the passes were slightly off target and off timing-wise. I made the comment "we have a great HS QB" to a friend.
In the running game Masoli was better, but Vernon at times looked like Jeremiah when he wouldn't wait to tuck it and run. He did not do as much read-option as Masoli but still did well when he did.
Overall I'd give him a passing grade but we will need better deep passing from him as the season progresses.
