I didn't. I was just young enough to miss Vietnam, but my grandfather served and was mustard gassed in WW I and my Dad, may he RIP, was in training for WW II when it ended. He was in Officer Training, so he got a full ride to complete his medical degree at UM and then served during the Korean War. My best friend's father in the UK was in the Battle of Britain flying hurricanes to save Britain. My best friend's Dad in NC flew for the Navy in Korea and and Vietnam. My wife and I just lost a close friend who was awarded the Silver and Bronze Star's, along with a Purple heart in WWII. I know we have active and retired service members on the Board, but I don't know who ya'll are. Why did you/they do it? What is the higher calling, and why beckon to it? Could it be there is something bigger than ourselves? In times like these, it should seem obvious, but I fear it's not. Why serve the USA? And gratitude to those who did!
