Not even a home-and-home? Not sure I'm buying this as a neutral site. Sigh...

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon and Georgia will open the 2022 season in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022.

“We are excited at the opportunity to play a high-quality opponent such as Georgia as well as to open the season in an incredible venue in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta,” said Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens. “This invitation is reflective of the brand and reputation of the Oregon football program, and we look forward to the chance for our student-athletes to participate in this prestigious event to open the 2022 season.”

The Ducks and Bulldogs have played once in the history of the programs, with Georgia winning 27-16 in the 1977 season-opener in Athens, Ga. The Ducks and Bulldogs were tied at half before UGA outscored the Ducks 18-10 in the second half.

“It’s a great honor for our program to open the 2022 season in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff game and to play a great program, like Georgia,” said Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal. “As we continue to grow this program we want to challenge ourselves against the best competition. I’m also extremely excited for our fans to make the trip to Mercedes-Benz Stadium and put their passion for the Ducks on full display.”

The neutral site season-opener will be the third since 2011 for Oregon. The Ducks lost 40-27 to LSU in the Cowboys Classic in Arlington, Texas, to open the 2011 season before going on to win the Rose Bowl over Wisconsin. Oregon will face Auburn on Saturday, August 31, 2019 in next year’s season opener at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The AdvoCare Classic is a rematch of the 2010 BCS National Championship game the Tigers won 22-19.

The addition of Georgia brings the total to 24 non-conference games the Ducks have scheduled between 2019 and 2030. Oregon announced a three-game series against Boise State and a two-game series against Michigan State earlier this month. The Ducks and Broncos will meet in 2024, 2025 and 2026, while UO and MSU play in 2029 and 2030.

Oregon also has a home-and-home series scheduled with Power 5 Conference opponents Ohio State (2020, 2021), Texas Tech (2023, 2024) and Baylor (2027, 2028).
