At this press conference today Mario Cristobal indicated that both Malik Young and DJ Johnson did not get favorable rulings from the NCAA. Young can't play this season; his eligibility is exhausted. Johnson has to sit out as a year as part of his transfer from Miami.

Cristobal went on to say he's concerned about depth on the defensive line:

"You would like more depth at the defensive line position. We feel good about the front seven but you can never have enough good defensive linemen. We are a few bodies short."

It makes me wonder, do the Ducks need to think about converting one of those beefy offensive linemen they've added this year? Would it help?

Scott, Jelks and Faoliu are as good a front 3 as Oregon's had in sometime. But they'll have to be iron men. A run of injuries in the defensive trenches would be disastrous.

Despite a top quarterback and some real star power in places the Ducks may be a year or two away from the kind of return to success fans are hoping for. With recruiting this good, the future is unlimited, but the talent drain of the late Helfrich era has left some huge holes in the roster.
