On Monday when I got to Kamehamaeha Schools for the first practice I was walking toward the field and Jesse Sapolu grabbed me by the shoulders, looked at me and said 'what position do you play?' This was funny because this is the seventh year we have covered this and we talk to Jesse a little bit each year. He's always a great conversation, but this was the first time he got a little more personal directly with me. The guy is a legend here and very well loved so it was a cool moment (more so for my wife because she is a 49er fan).
The second cool moment this week happened yesterday. As I was talking with Gary Kubiak before the interview we did, he said that he had read my stories for DSA and really liked what we did. While I could not get an official endorsement on the record, it was a nice compliment from him.
We have one more story coming up today (Alai Kalaniuvalu interview) plus the game, but Leslie and I will be out and about most of the day today.
