I am in Eugene briefly and went to the Track Town Tuesday presentation tonight. Devon Allen was the featured guest. He gave a great interview. They showed film of his NCAA and Olympic Trials victory, his Olympic finals heat, and even film from his first hurdle race in middle school.
Devon announced tonight that he signed with Nike. That received a great applause.
Javelin throwers Cody Danielson and John Nizich were also interviewed. I had a chance to talk with both. They are both really like able. R2Fire, I must say, your nephew is an impressive young man. He is polite, friendly and articulate.
John and Cody will be critical in the Oregon men's quest for a NCAA Outdoor team title this spring.
Vin Lanansa, as always, put in his plug for Hayward Field. He made a good point. Vin said that as Hayward Field goes, so goes the sport in this country. When big meets are hosted at Hayward Field there is a special enthusiasm that becomes contagious. Put simply, Hayward Field fans are the best track fans in the country. We generate an electric energy that is good for track and field, and no US track and field community can do for the sport what Track Town USA does.
Cody Danielson said it best. Cody explained that when he was competing at Hayward Field as a Bruin, an athlete from a university other than Oregon had a great performance and the Oregon fans went wild with applause. He said that that was a moment when he realized just how special the Hayward Field fans are.
