There is a new biography out for Jim Thorpe, Path Lit By Lightning by David Maraniss.
Thorpe's life was almost one long tragedy, from not being permitted to be a citizen of the United States, to the rescinding his two gold medals for the Pentathlon and Decathlon on false charges of professionalism to the final indignity when his third wife in a fit of greed and grift sold his body to a town in PA rather that go thru with his burial in honor in Oklahoma.
As Eisenhower remarked after playing football against Thorpe that "he could do anything anyone else could do and do it better."
