So it has come up in a couple of threads so i will address it as much as possible.
There is a slight difference between Shough's development and Mariota's in that we have seen Shough play this season. In his limited action he has shown everything you want to see from your number two.
He has a good command of the offense and playbook, he did not let the moment against USC "get to him" when Herbert went down. in fact he completed 2 of 3 for 41 yards and a really nice play to Mycah Pittman.
Millen has not practiced due to injury so right now Shough is head and shoulders above anyone else currently on the roster. Butterfield has a live arm and knows the game inside and out. He will get to Eugene early and there is no doubt that he will work hard to compete and win the job. What are the chances that a true freshman is going to take the job from a third year sophomore? We won't really know that for sure until we see both in action.
I think Shough is already really good and the presence of Butterfield and Millen will make him even better. I don't see Ashford getting the starting role next season, he has some things on which he needs work and will be well behind the others when he arrives.
