Joel Klatt ranked the top five running backs in the country for Fox Sports. He notes Royce Freeman is the active career leader among RBs in college football, but rates him 5th on this list:
As good as Rolls Royce is, and as much attention as he gets, the country is sleeping on him. Last year he ran for 950 yards with a cracked sternum and an injured leg. He's healthy now and brick solid. He's been hitting the blocking sled with his offensive line.
I believe he's poised to have the best season of his college career, which will be the best in Oregon history. It's a loaded, deep backfield, but Freeman is the star. The tandem of Freeman and James, and the trio of Freeman, James and Benoit is a powerful foundation for the run-first power running game Willie Taggart wants to run, especially when coupled with a deep, experienced, physical, well-coached offensive line.
People have forgotten how good the Oregon offense can be. Even with young wide receivers, I expect this to be a 40-point-a-game unit again.
