I caught up with the junior DB today and got some great stuff. Here are some of the questions and I will post the full interview below when it finishes uploading.
A.J. Jacobson You mentioned that energy seems higher this spring. How much is Coach Hoke responsible for that?
Tyree Robinson Just because he holds you accountable. If you’re not doing what you’re supposed to be doing every single play he is going to call you out in front of your brothers. The whole defense will meet every day before practice and like I said, if you don’t do what you’re supposed to do, he is going to make sure If you don’t like getting pointed out in meetings and stuff, he is going to make sure you are uncomfortable and doing your job.
AJ What takeaway do you have from last season’s defense that you knew you needed to improve on for this year?
TR Last year’s defense, we were just more comfortable. This year’s defense, it’s new so we have to be ready; in the film room more, talking to each other more and meeting more. Michigan did it when he got the head coaching job there and they were fine. Their defense was a top defense. WE have to make that step so our defense is one of those top defenses next year.
AJ How does running the 4-3 affect the defensive backfield?
TR It helps us out because the ball is coming out much faster. The quarterback does not have as much time as he used to have. So for us we just have to be in the right positions to make plays and defend the deep ball, to compete at the end of the routes.
AJ Was this competition day today and who won?
TR We (defense) won. It took us to the last quarter to win but we pulled it off. It was a great battle. The offense gets the best of us every single day with their speed but at the end of the day, we fight out there on the field but we come off as friends.
