Here was my look at the defense. This is the side that is a little skewed and there are a few more LB's than typically needed, as well as a few less DB's. I think that imbalance has been partially created by departures (Ihenacho) and the inability to land a couple of corners, but I think you will see the balance inequity corrected over the course of the 2017 recruiting cycle.
In all, the balance is not awful, but there were some serious balance issues from prior seasons misses at LB and DB, part of which were created by a need to correct the DL imbalance... I think the Ducks are close to having the right balance and are likely to stay better balanced in their recruiting efforts moving forward.
The formula, by the way, for balance is essentially assuming 3 special teams schollies (Kicker, Punter, long snapper) and then dividing the rest of the 82 equally among the position based on the percentage composition... i.e., the OL has 5 starters, that is 22.7% of the starters so should equate to a similar number of the team which I then rounded to the number that made most sense... for the OL that came to 18, I think the team had 17 on schollie last year, so that seemed close. The coaches obviously look at it from their own unique perspective, so this was just a way to look at how imbalanced the team is... a perception v. reality thing...
