Well here is a message I never expected to write. For the last six months or so I have been experiencing strange pain in my chest/back/stomach varying in severity by many degrees, quite unpredictable. I went through many, many tests but they were all coming back inconclusive.
Finally my doctor ordered an angiogram last Thursday which is the gold standard of heart tests though very expensive/invasive. So they stuck a camera up my femoral artery...and a few hours later that test was very conclusive. Heredity had wronged me in a major way. Later Thursday night I had an emergency quadruple bypass surgery on my heart.
I did not want to write until I knew more about what was going to happen but now things are clear. Although I am in intense discomfort as is normal for these things, my prognosis is 100% recovery. In fact I should feel better than I have in decades within a few weeks.
I am very excited that I will finally be my full A.J. again once I recover. But it will take a little while as they 'harvested' my own arteries in my legs and arms for the bypasses in addition to cracking open my chest like an egg. I'm not going to detail it further because it is unnecessary and frankly depressing to me on the surface.
What this will mean to DSA isn't too much although Brandon will be covering the Opening this week with a hired gun rather than me. I will be at DSA HQ coordinating the coverage. I should be totally fine by Fall camp. Brandon and Scott will be picking up whatever slack I have to leave in the meantime.
I am very grateful to have you members and you admins of DSA in my life. You are what is going to the entertainment portion of my recovery. I look forward to diving in deep with you into this year's team as well as continuing with this very interesting recruiting class. Thank you all for your loyalty and friendships.
