To any sports fanatic who cruises the web, no one can avoid the elephantine presence of ESPN. It's rear end sticks out from behind it's Ozian curtain as it pushes cliches to the swells and hypes the obvious.
But on occasion it assumes an unnatural affinity to teams that borderlines on pornography, or at least the creepiness of a stalker.
Witness Duke. Any day, any time, on ESPN NCAAM, the Devils are there, 24/7. Coach K has a serial tripper with emotional deficit...Coach K gets a standing ovation for back surgery...Coach K wanted the tripper back in the lineup.
Most of us had enough of Coach K when our Ducks punched his lights out last year and his reaction to Brooks. Perhaps the greatest fiction in basketball is that this man with the unpronounceable name is accorded status with the angels and an endearment akin to anyone's favorite saint.
