The reason that Herbert was being considered to start at QB is because Hoke has talked Helfrich into letting Prukop start on defense, in place of the injured Johnny Ragin.
Helfrich allegedly has agreed to move Dakota to linebacker, citing that the defense is in more need of help than the offense. Although Prukop has never before played linebacker, he has demonstrated an ability to take the pounding from large players hitting him at full speed. Hoke has been impressed with Dakota's physicality and believes that he will be able to get in the way of the running backs much the way he got in the way of the d linemen..
As for QB. The Ducks have allegedly decided to really screw up the Husky defense, by switching to the wishbone. This way they can get Freeman, James, and Griffen on the field all at once.Since they won't be needing three wide outs, they have decided to move the sure handed Charles Nelson to QB. This way they can also get two good blocking tight ends on the field....Brown and Baylis.
When asked if his "secret" plan should work, offensive coordinator Lubick responded "it has a better chance to work better than what they were originally planing to do."
Mark Helfrich was unavailable for comment, but is rumored to be actively involved in chalk talks with Phil Knight at the Cooler Taven.
