Oregon football player Kirk Merritt is now on the Duck track roster.
He finished 2nd in 100m at the Louisiana State H.S. Championships.
I think that Kirk is a strong addition to the relay team.
It is hard for a football player to excel at track. Track athletes need more training than a two sport commitment allows. Also the track/football players usually have spring football obligations that compromise their track training. Football players weight lifting is different than the sprinters. However, that might be less true with receivers.
Having said all that, Kirk is fast. He has clocked a 10.44 100m. I'm looking forward to seeing him run!
Here are newcomers that will help the 4x100 relay team:
Kirk Merritt
Tatum Taylor
Travonn White
Returning After absence:
Devon Allen (not sure if he'll just focus on the hurdles because he's in training for the Olympic Trials)
Returning :
Tony James Brooks
Charles Nelson
It's going to be interesting
