Interesting tidbits

This first bit came from reading through all of the new contracts for all of the coaches:

From the end of the contract:

Section 8.10: “All compensation payable to coach… are payable only from revenues of the Department of Athletics or funds made available to the Department of Athletics by University’s affiliated foundation. University is not obligated to use state general fund money to pay compensation to coach…”

There is a further provision that says the clause does not eliminate the university's obligation, just interesting that the contracts basically require the coaches be paid without using state general fund money.

The other interesting tidbit:

So, that begs the question of which position. The immediate possibility is a sharing of LB responsibilities with Pellum. But this also does not necessarily preclude a possible change. The chatter from that seemed to die down with the three current defensive coaches all having signed contracts which run through 1/31/18, but that is not always the best clue as to what could be happening. Aiken and Neal both signed their contract last February.

In all of the contracts there is a clause which states that should the coach be reassigned (hint: demoted) the university would still be obligated to pay the prior rate. Because Pellum had been demoted, it was necessary to negotiate a new contract. And that new contract included the same pay he had been receiving prior. Could this simply be a 'golden parachute' contract? Not likely, but it is always a possibility.

Hoke has experience coaching all three levels of a defense as a position coach, so there could be multiple potential possibilities for what he could be coaching next season. The spring will definitely be interesting.
